READ | Filipinos Can Get UAE Visa-on-Arrival — But It’s Not a Blanket Visa-Free Privilege

MANILA – Filipinos with certain foreign visas or residence permits can now qualify for a visa-on-arrival in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), under updated guidelines announced by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

The new policy, however, should not be confused with a blanket visa-free arrangement for all Philippine passport holders.The distinction is particularly important, as noted by the UAE Embassy in Manila.

The claim that “Filipinos can now get a UAE visa-on-arrival” needs an important qualifier: Not every Filipino passport holder qualifies. A Filipino tourist without a qualifying visa or residence permit from one of the specified countries should not assume that the new arrangement allows them to board a flight to the UAE and obtain a visa at the airport.

LOOK: Philippines Wins Two Golds in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Seoul, SK

A grade school student from Ateneo de Manila, Franco del Pilar, grabbed two gold medals as he represented the Philippines at the Marianas Pro Korea Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Seoul, South Korea, held on June 6, 2026.

"Competing against young Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners from various countries, del Pilar captured gold in both the Kid 5-Feather Gi category and the Kid 5-Feather No-Gi category, giving the Philippines a pair of victories at the international tournament," the Ateneo de Manila said in a statement.

In 2025, del Pilar won a total of 30 medals—28 gold and 2 silver in 13 local and international tournaments across the Philippines, Taiwan, Guam, and Japan.

His performances also earned him top rankings and an undefeated record in multiple Asian Sport Jiu Jitsu Federation (ASJJF) categories.

READ | The Tristar Half Marathon 2026 event set on January 18, 2026 at Expo City Dubai has already 1,300 registrants with over 350 running in the 21k course.

Organizers disclosed that they will be able to accommodate 200 more registrants for the 10k and 21k courses where the Top 3 finishers in both male and female categories will receive cash prizes.

The event will have a special attraction for families joining with kids with entertainments and fun activities, as well as an awareness campaign about road safety and traffic.

The event T-shirt will be made from recycled plastics and participants will be able to learn about how the plastic water bottles used for the race get recycled into new products, including the event T-shirts they will be wearing.

The event organizers also mentioned that all finishers will have a certificate, medal, souvenir photo and refreshment.

“This is the third year in succession that we are organizing this signature event for Tristar. We are very happy with the response received and I am sure it will be a great day for everyone to enjoy and have fun. As we always say Aim High Tristar," said Tristar Group Chief Administrative Officer Balaji Nagabhushan.
