Behold : The Digital Marketing Trifecta!
There are generally considered to be three types of media in marketing: Earned, Owned & Paid.
In this threadπ§΅we'll break down each one and how you can use them to market your game.
Earned Media is content about your game that has been posted by someone else. This can be reviews, streams and even fan content like art.
Start by building a press list and interacting with creators on social media. You can also use platforms like Keymailer and PressEngine.
To make your Earned Media go further, be sure to interact with the creators.
This is a great way to get involved with your community. Join the chat in a Twitch stream; promote positive reviews; and be sure to share content that your community creates.
Owned Media is your own set of communication outlets. This can be your studio's social media pages, your store page, the game's trailer, etc.
This part is where you can really shine because no one knows your game better than you.
Good Owned Media can also support Earned Media. By showing off what makes your game unique, you can capture the attention of content creators wanting to cover your game.
So be sure to make a great trailer, write a compelling synopsis and capture some captivating screenshots.
Lastly, there's Paid Media. This one can be tricky for indie devs as budgets can be tight, especially if you're promoting your first game.
If you can't do paid media, that's ok. Just be sure to focus on Earned and Owned Media.
But if you can...
It may seem easy to spend a couple grand on a social media ad and call it a day, but is that really the best use of your budget?
Gaming websites and outlets often have advertising space for sale, and choosing the right one could help you better target your slice of the market.
Or, macro/mega sized influencers may charge to sponsor your game. Perhaps finding one who resonates best with your target audience could be the way to go.
If none of the above, platforms like Keymailer have ways to promote your game with ads allowing you to reach more creators.
