One of my favourite parts of the branding process is gathering inspiration and finding the common thread between a client’s vision, audience and personality.

From quilt and craft brands, to colourful systems strategists and somatic practitioners, every moodboard starts as a collection of ideas before evolving into a cohesive brand identity.

A little peek behind my recent branding and website project for 🌺🐾

The goal was to create a brand that felt unmistakably Hawaiian without leaning into the clichés - playful, welcoming and community-focused, while still feeling polished enough to grow with the business. Hawaii Pet Club brings together thoughtfully matched companions, trusted pet care, quality products and a growing community of animal lovers, all under one roof.

From custom illustrations and badge marks to social media templates, patterns, icons and a fully custom website, every element was designed to feel bright, joyful and full of personality. The visual identity combines island-inspired colours, hand-drawn pet illustrations and retro-inspired typography to create a brand that feels friendly, memorable and instantly recognisable.

One of my favourite parts of this project was building an entire brand world around the idea of pets being family - complete with playful brand phrases like “Raised With Aloha, Loved For Life” and a flexible suite of assets that can be used across social media, packaging, merchandise and the website.

One of my favourite projects recently was creating the branding and website for - a brand that needed to balance something quite unexpected:

✨ Serious, evidence-based relationship education
🎰 Vintage Las Vegas charm
💌 A playful, tongue-in-cheek personality
💻 And a modern, easy-to-navigate user experience

For this project, I leaned heavily into 1950s Vegas nostalgia - retro signage, pastel palettes and vintage-inspired illustrations, while making sure the brand still felt credible, professional and approachable for couples preparing for marriage.

The challenge was creating something memorable without feeling gimmicky. We wanted the experience to feel fun, warm and distinctly Las Vegas, while still communicating the real value behind the service: helping couples build stronger foundations before they say “I do.”

From the custom illustrations and playful brand assets through to the website design, every element was designed to feel cohesive, distinctive and easy to explore. The result is a brand that feels uniquely positioned within a sea of generic counseling websites, proving that professional brands don’t have to be boring!

POV: Your designer is obsessed with books 📚

When this brief landed in my inbox and the references included cosy London book clubs, heritage-inspired interiors, old reading lamps, worn armchairs and community-focused bookstores…I knew this one was going to be special.

As a lifelong reader, this felt like one of those dream projects where the branding almost designs itself because you’re already emotionally invested in the story.

Working alongside Jamie , we created a brand identity that feels warm, welcoming and rooted in place. We drew inspiration from traditional heritage signage and architectural shapes for the logo suite, incorporated subtle references to the historic Red Apple Pharmacy that once occupied the bookshop’s location, and developed a collection of custom illustrations inspired by the feeling of curling up with a good read.

But what I love most about this project isn’t the typography, illustrations or colour palette.

It’s the leap Jamie has taken.

Opening an independent bookshop is no small thing in a world that increasingly pushes us towards convenience and algorithms. Instead, she’s creating a space that brings people together, encourages reading, sparks conversation and builds community through a shared love of stories.

And honestly? The world needs more of that.

Building a colour palette is never just about choosing colours that “look nice” together. For me, it always starts with meaning first.

I usually begin with 3 key tones that represent the core feeling of the brand…maybe one brings warmth, one softness, one confidence, calmness or energy. Those first shades become the emotional foundation of the identity.

From there, I start expanding the palette through tonal variation and contrast. Lighter tints, deeper shades and supporting neutrals help create flexibility across packaging, web, social media and print applications without the brand feeling flat or repetitive.

Always, I’ll introduce at least one deeper support tone too. Not just for aesthetic, but for functionally. Darker colours are incredibly important for things like text contrast, accessibility and creating visual grounding throughout a brand system.

Because the strongest colour palettes don’t just create a mood…they create balance, usability and longevity too.

I LOVE working with floral brands…they’re not just about a logo…they’re about creating a feeling people want to step into.

Across these projects, from homestead flower farms to floral studios and boutique bloom brands, illustration became a powerful storytelling tool. Each icon, motif and hand-drawn element was designed to quietly communicate the heart of the brand: the rituals, the seasons, the craftsmanship and the atmosphere surrounding it.

But illustration never works in isolation. Typography, colour palettes and patterns are just as important in shaping how a brand is perceived. A vintage serif might create a more timeless, romantic tone, while playful colours and organic pattern work can make a studio feel warm, joyful and community-led. Every decision is made with the customer in mind…who they are, what they value and how the brand should make them feel.

When these elements work together, a brand becomes more than visual…it becomes an experience 🌷

One of my favourite parts of the branding process is seeing how the feeling of a brand slowly transforms into something tangible. For .sydney.sews, we started by building a visual direction rooted in quilting culture, handcrafted details and a sense of joyful creativity - then translated those references into a full identity system designed to feel cohesive, modern and instantly recognisable.

As the moodboard fades away in this reel, you’ll see the final pieces revealed underneath…custom logos, playful illustration elements, stitch-inspired details and pattern work designed to carry consistently across packaging, web and social media.
