She knows her sh*t!

I’ve been in the design industry for 11 years.
Mentoring brands & self-employed for 6.

And I see this ALOT; You have an idea and quickly throw a “logo” together (I use the word logo loosely) Get a cheap ass website template (winning: yeah no) set up a page and boom you “think” (again I’m using it loosely) you’ve got a cool ass business.

Um no. Just no. Just stop.

You need to hire a professional. Yes, there are professional people to make at that happen: magical beasts called: Designers.

Would you let your neighbour do your accounting because they had a calculator?
Probably not.

A good designer are skilled professional with analytical, persuasive & creative.

We solve problems in a timely manner and argue from an informed point of view.

You hire designers to help solve problems: visually.

Your customer judge your business: visually.

You get the point. (Insanely awesome designer without a hefty price tag: because I wanna buy avocados too)

In a sea of snore!

You might offer the same service as many other businesses but your voice, interaction and values will be completely different, your story is unique. Stand out and be yourself, you’ll find no one can copy that!

Find what makes you, you and run with it, find other business that can help you grow. You do you baby.

Toddler in a tiara: precious and short

Your etiquette & engagement you provide your clients is crucial. You will be seen as the service you provide.

Are you flaky when it coming to returning calls? Do you leave emails for days before replying? Do your social interactions lay dormant like Sleeping Beauty. & I'm talking within 'working hours' people, not on a Friday night at 9 pm when you've already got a wine in hand sitting in ya un**es on the couch in front of Netflix with the fam. I'm talking 9 till 5!

Here's the stinky hot tip, If you one of these people; High chance I would steer clear from you (ohhhh)

Here is why:

1. (Slap to the face) You seem unreliable
2. Care factor: zero
3. I want it done yesterday

Yes, yes, yes I can hear all the eye rolling...I'm not saying people need a thesis email reply or a voice message with some excuss. I just mean a quick "yup, on it" or "I'll check it out & get back to you" JUST something rather then tumbleweeds & cricket sounds.

Is this something you need to work on? Your business etiquette is apart of your brand. and you know I LOVE to chat brand.

Show me the MONEY...

I've been working for myself for 6 years and I have seen and heard it all. You might come across this little doozy: "I can get it cheaper?" (insert jaw drop) If it was acceptable to throw glitter in their face "YASS... go get it cheaper" and stomp away like a queen, I would do that!

But instead, I say: "Oh, of course, there is always going to be someone cheaper but cheapest price is not always going to give you the best solution, in fact, it might cost you more in the long run"

I don't make friends with discounts because it sets a precedent and de-values my work.

There have been tough times in my business where... sure... I could have done a job cheaper just to win the job but I know my worth... I'm a unicorn soring across the sky on a freaking shooting star... Well, maybe not exactly that but you get it the point.

Reputable clients WILL pay what you are WORTH. If you don't have those clients... maybe its time to change your target audience?

Oh, stand by me...

Sometimes you need to have someone to stand by you and listen and hold your hand in business and I don't mean the person you go home to and vent to while you slam down a bottle of wine... I mean someone else in the same circumstance as you, a self-employed badass business boss.

S**t gets real and someone in the same boat can help inspire and push you in the right direction.

Find a Jay Z to your Beyonce.

oh yeah I designed that for

and don't come back till you do.

QUESTIONS every self-employed business owner gets asked... especially if they work from home:

1. How do you not get distracted by housework?
2. Don't you find it lonely?
3. You must do crazy hours.

Here are my sarcastic answers;

1. Well here's the thing. people work, invoices go out, bills get paid. Unless there is a secret millionaire fairy that wants to give money "bills gotta get paid y'all" and housework, snore I would 125 million % choose working over washing (oh that a great teeshirt idea...)

2. We have these devices called phones and messaging making apps that deliver message RIGHT TO OTHER PEOPLE. get woke.

3. I sure as hell don't. If I have someone ask for something over the weekend. Oh.. So you want to pay double? Rather than waiting till Monday?... they will ALWAYS wait till Monday.

When you work yourself it's financially risky, tough and stressful to wear all the hat.

But to sit in my PJs all day with Mariah Carey cranking (secret embarrassing love) and Winston (fur son) at my feet. I wouldn't' change a thing.

The self-employed are the real MVP. mic drop.

I scream we all scream for...

I love creating posters to catch screaming kids attention (sorry mumma 'n' papas).

I create lots of different things, not just for big business but for small ones too.

If you've been thinking about getting some flyers, brochure or maybe you finally realised how outdated your website is: Get in contact with a designer, great ones will be apart of your tribe for a very long time.

Kind of like when you have the best hairdresser and you never trust anyone else with your beautiful locks. Think of designer as your businesses hairdresser to get it looking fiiiine.

okay, you get the point. I designed that.
