Big shift coming for boatbuilding 👀

A major new research project led by Lisa Blair OAM (Lisa Blair Sails the World) is taking aim at one of the marine industry’s biggest problems, what happens to fibreglass boats at the end of their life.

With millions of yachts worldwide heading toward landfill and no real recycling pathway, this $1.9 million partnership is exploring a serious alternative, basalt fibre and bio-resins, with the potential to create stronger, fully recyclable hulls.

Even more interesting, the tech won’t just stay in the lab. Lisa is planning to build her next offshore yacht from these materials and put it to the ultimate test, a solo, non-stop circumnavigation of the Arctic.

Could this be the breakthrough that reshapes boatbuilding for decades to come?
