🏁💧Finke 2026

Everyone has a role when it comes to preparing for the Finke Desert Race.

The boys spent months preparing the bike with Dad.
Family & mates helped with the logistics and support around fuelling the bike.

My focus?

Hydration…along with a good luck helmet kiss. 💙

For weeks leading into race weekend, I focused on keeping Justin hydrated and supporting his recovery with hydrogen-rich Kangen Water.

What I didn’t fully appreciate was just how quickly hydration can be lost when you’re operating at your peak.

The physical demands are obvious.

But the nerves, adrenaline, anticipation, excitement and mental pressure also take a huge toll on the body.

While others were focused on fuelling the bike, I was focused on fuelling the rider.

We even sent a 10-litre container of hydrogen rick Kangen water down to Finke so he could continue drinking it overnight before race day two.

Then came the finish line.
The relief of seeing him safely cross that finish line is hard to put into words. ❤️

As I made my way through the crowd relieved to congratulate him, a volunteer had already handed him a bottle of water.

Yep, the plastic leached, acidic stuff that sits in warehouses in extreme heat.

Yep, the stuff I educate athletes NOT to drink.

And while I was incredibly grateful that he was being looked after, it also reminded me how dependent major events are on single-use plastic bottles for hydration.

It’s convenient, absolutely. I understand that…..

But every one of those bottles has to go somewhere after the event and did you know one plastic bottle can take up to 100 years to break down.

That’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about educating families and athletes about water quality, hydration and creating more sustainable ways to stay hydrated.
