Good luck to MRUFC Unicorns 1sts and 2nds tomorrow as they run out in Semi-finals. Proud to be part of the 'team'.
Hi to all MRUFC supporters, sponsors, friends, and players.
Tomorrow is the semi-finals for both 1st and 2nd grade teams. The 1sts will play at 3.15 pm against Power House AND the 2nds play Box Hill at 1.35 pm BOTH games at HOME.
After 14 regular season home and away games, the 1s and 2s each finished 3rd on the table. This means 2 great HOME games to start the run towards the finals and a chance to really show the rest of the clubs in the finals and the Victorian rugby community how much hard work has been done since our 1st training session back on 25th October 2022 to now.
Below are some statistics from 1st grade’s regular season –
- 45 players have played some game time in a Dewar Shield 1st grade this season.
- 24 players have scored a Try (Fwds 11, Backs 13)
- Unicorns scored 59 tries in total with 9 tries more scored in 2nd round. (25 in the 1st round vs 34 in the 2nd round)
- Opposition scored 54 tries with only 4 more scored in 2nd round. (25 in 1st round and 29 in 2nd round)
- 46 more points scored by Unicorns vs 1st round.
- 14 more points scored by our opposition vs 1st round.
- 1st round 3 wins & 4 losses and 2nd round 4 wins & 3 losses (to the top 4 sides).
As you can see the 1st grade side/squad not only put more points on the board but also the defence has been stepped up and maintained to set up a good base for the finals.
With the 2nd grade side also performing very well in the 2nd round vs 1st round with similar or if not better results statistically.
The plan for the 2023 season was to have a main squad of around 50 players rotate through and be selected in their primary and secondary positions to provide selection headaches and has helped with injuries and overall performance of the 2 sides to reach their goal of making the final 4 of the 2023 season.
Both semi-final games tomorrow is now a step up from the regular season and the first step to reach the end goal of the grand final. The plan for the finals, with decisions around selections made, are along the lines of a tournament type scenario (knockout games), with the selecting of the best players available to play the opposition we will be playing in both grades.
The players/coaches/managers are really looking forward to the challenge tomorrow vs Power House in 1sts and Box Hill in 2nds, with the knowledge that the hard work is done, and now to provide a good spectacle and see the teams play some great rugby.
See you at the games tomorrow from 1.30 pm for 2nd grade kick off, with your Unicorns gear on and loudest biased cheering, supporting both teams.
LET’S GO UNICORNS!!!!!
