As the beef industry continues to evolve through technology, data and genomics, the decisions producers make around genetic information are becoming increasingly important in shaping herd performance, productivity and long-term profitability.

Angus Australia has taken an important step forward with the introduction of DNA Direct (powered by Helical), a new online DNA ordering and management platform designed to simplify and streamline the DNA testing process for members.

Launching initially with Weatherbys Scientific Australia testing services, DNA Direct will progressively expand to also incorporate Neogen Australasia - Livestock and Livestock Solutions With Zoetis testing, creating a more connected and efficient member experience across multiple providers.

Importantly, DNA Direct is not a new DNA provider itself. Rather, it is a new member-facing online platform that will allow Angus Australia members to manage DNA testing requests more efficiently through a centralised digital system.

A fantastic day was had in Ballarat (VIC) on Wednesday for the AGM & Workshop. Speakers at the workshop included Will Evans, CEO Cattle Australia, as well as Carel Teseling, Dr Brad Hine and Jake Bourne from Angus Australia. Quantitative Geneticist and computing specialist Vinzent Boerner spoke on developing Angus GenetiQ, and Simon Quilty gave a market trend update. Travis McKenzie from Halter was also there to discuss the innovation space.

This was a really informative workshop, and Angus Australia would like to thank all those who took the time to come along, and of course, thank you to our speakers.

Angus bull breeders cutting their cloth to suit southern cow herd retraction — Beef Central

"Angus bull breeders preparing for the upcoming spring bull selling season are in the middle of evaluating the realistic size of the market this year and how many bulls can be effectively offered, as a result of recent drought impacts.

Estimates have suggested anywhere between 50,000 and 100,000 breeding cows have been removed from the system in the drought-hit zone across the New England, Northern Tablelands and southern Queensland border region over the past six months, as severe conditions set in."
