Jack of all trades, master of none BUT STILL BETTER THAN ONE. This quote by William Shakespeare ,in its entirety ,was originally intended as a compliment but is often used partially and twisted into an insult.
The phrase was a hat tip to the individuals whose curiosity led them out of their cave and led them down several rabbit warrens of knowledge across different disciplines.
The basic frameworks still apply to all seemingly unrelated disciplines- multiple rounds of failing and learning followed by eventual success.
A brand requires something similar. Specialisation is always required to build something but the ability to comprehend spheres other than one's own is an unparalleled advantage. It allows a brand to know their strengths and weaknesses and ascertain their relative position in the world.
The safe path trades progress for comfort.Calculated risks are an inherent part of any business and without those adventures, a brand cannot grow.
