Amputating your marketing team during an economic crisis is a rash move.
The economy is tightening and global instability is creating a wait-and-see atmosphere. Your first instinct as a business leader is to go into survival mode. That usually translates to cutting the discretionary budget.
If Marketing and SEO are on the chopping block, I would like to tell you that you're making a huge mistake, and not because I'm from the industry.
Learn from the Share Market
Your digital presence is like a stock portfolio. Experienced investors know that you don't sell when the market is down. You lean in and buy when amateurs are panicking.
Cutting your SEO team during a crisis is the equivalent of selling your best-performing assets at the bottom of the cycle.
You are handing over your hard-earned rankings and digital authority to the competitors who are also vulnerable but brave enough to stay the course.
Rebound is Not a Calendar Event
SEO is a game of momentum and compounding interest. You cannot turn it off and expect to flip the switch back on when the market rebounds.
If you stop now, you aren't just pausing but decaying.
By the time the rebound happens—and it always does without notice—your competitors will have already moved the goalposts and filled the vacuum you left behind.
They will have captured the mindshare (authority, rankings, and trust) that used to be yours.
To reclaim your ground later and get back to where you were today, you’ll have to spend 5x the capital and effort.
Efficiency Over Elimination
I am not suggesting you spend blindly when the going gets tough. Now is the time to find efficiencies and become smarter, leaner, and faster.
• Audit your operations.
• Find the bloat in your supply chain.
• Refine your internal processes.
• Demand higher ROI from every touchpoint.
Authority Gap
While others are retreating, there is a massive opportunity to establish your brand as a stable, authoritative voice in your industry.
When the market settles, customers will return to the names they saw standing firm through the chaos.
Don’t let a temporary downturn lead to a permanent loss of market share. If you want to own the market when the dust settles, you have to be present while it’s still in the air.
Soldier on. Streamline your ops. Stay visible.
