AI is changing how we work, and I see enormous potential in that.

We can automate repetitive tasks. Process information faster. Streamline operations. Create more efficient systems.

But there are things technology can't replace.

Trust. Empathy. Judgment. Creativity. Connection.

That's why I don't see AI and human support as competing forces. I see them as partners.

Through the Fractional VA Service model, my goal has always been to help business owners access the right support at the right time while using technology to make that support even more effective.

The future of business isn't about replacing people with technology.

It's about giving people better tools, better support, and more space to do the work that matters.

I explored this idea further in my recent conversation on the AI Bridges Podcast with Mark Pearson.

AI can automate tasks, process information, and help businesses move faster. But it can't replace trust, empathy, judgment, or genuine human connection.

That's why Joanna Zhang believes the future of business isn't people vs. technology... it's about bringing the two together.

In her recent conversation on the AI Bridges Podcast, Joanna explored how technology and human support can work hand in hand to create more flexible, scalable, and sustainable businesses.

Her Fractional VA Service model reflects this philosophy: use technology where it creates efficiency, and bring in the right people where human expertise creates the greatest value.

The result? Less operational pressure, more flexibility, and more space for leaders to focus on strategy, relationships, and growth.

"Stop Waiting for Perfect. Start With One Step."

I’ve seen business owners fall into two extremes when building their systems.

They either spend too much time making their SOPs perfect, only to discover they need to change them once they start using them.

Or they have plenty of ideas but never turn them into action.

I’ve learned that there’s a better way.

Start somewhere. Take one step. Learn from what happens, then improve as you go.

The same applies to delegation.

When I bring in a VA or specialist, it’s because I trust their expertise. I give them room to try, be creative, and find what works. Then we look at the results, learn from the data, and adjust.

It doesn’t have to be perfect from day one.

Progress creates momentum.

"Your Business Should Give You Freedom, Not Keep You Busy."

A business shouldn't depend on the owner holding everything together.

Joanna Zhang believes the right systems should create flow, clarity, and freedom, not more work.

By putting clear processes in place, defining responsibilities, and helping teams work together, business owners can finally step out of the day-to-day and return to what they do best: their genius zone.

For Joanna, that's the real goal of operations. Not simply making a business run better, but creating the space for its owner to focus on their vision, purpose, and impact.

When I created the Fractional VA Service, the goal was never simply to help businesses get more tasks done.

It was to help leaders create space for the work that only they can do.

Today, AI is changing what's possible. It can automate repetitive work, analyse information, speed up processes, and make businesses more efficient.

But efficiency isn't everything.

People bring judgment. Creativity. Emotional intelligence. Relationships. Context. And the ability to understand what isn't always written in a process.

That's why I believe the smartest businesses won't ask, "Should I use AI or a Virtual Assistant?"

They'll ask:

"What should technology handle, and where does human expertise create more value?"

The future belongs to businesses that know how to combine both.

I explored this topic in my recent conversation on Conversations with Zena, My AI Colleague and shared why the right blend of technology and human support can help businesses scale more intelligently.

As AI continues to transform the way businesses work, it's tempting to ask: Can technology replace the need for human support?

Joanna Zhang believes there's a better question:

How can we use both to work smarter?

In her recent conversation on Conversations with Zena, My AI Colleague, Joanna explored the strengths of both AI and human support—and why the future of business isn't about choosing one over the other.

AI can automate repetitive tasks, process information, analyse data, and streamline workflows.

People bring something technology can't fully replicate: judgment, emotional intelligence, creativity, relationships, context, and strategic thinking.

The real advantage comes from combining the two.

In her latest article, Joanna explores how businesses can use technology to increase efficiency while leveraging human expertise where it matters most.

For a long time, I had so much knowledge about my business sitting in my head.

Every process, every detail, every little thing that needed to be done.

And when everything lives in your head, you naturally become the person everyone depends on.

That can feel valuable at first. But eventually, it becomes exhausting.

That's when I realized the importance of documentation.

It doesn't need to be perfect. I don't believe you need to create a huge manual before you can start. Even a simple skeleton of the process is a good beginning.

Capture what you know. Put the key steps somewhere your team can access them. Then let the people doing the work help improve and develop the process along the way.

The goal isn't to document everything perfectly.

It's to make sure the business doesn't stop when one person steps away.

For me, documentation isn't just about systems.

It's about sharing knowledge, creating continuity, and giving myself and my team more freedom.

For a long time, Joanna Zhang felt like everything was on her shoulders.

She believed she had to take responsibility for everything, solve every problem, and make sure nothing fell through the cracks.

But over time, she realized that leadership isn't about carrying everything alone.

Everyone has different experiences, strengths, intentions, and lessons to work through. When leaders respect those differences and give people space to own their responsibilities, the entire team becomes stronger.

For Joanna, building redundancy isn't about replacing people. It's about creating a team where the business doesn't depend on one person carrying everything.

It gives others the opportunity to contribute, grow, and take ownership while allowing the leader to step back and breathe.

Sometimes, letting others help isn't weakness.

It's leadership.

"I didn’t start with a business idea. I started with a problem."

I’m excited to share that I’ve been featured in CanvasRebel Magazine, where I opened up about the journey behind The Operations Genius and how a personal challenge became a business built to help other founders.

For years, I tried to do everything myself. Eventually, I realized I had become the bottleneck in my own business.

Learning to delegate, build systems, and empower my team changed the way I worked and, more importantly, the way I led.

That experience eventually evolved into the world's first Fractional VA service, helping founders step out of the daily grind and build businesses that don't depend on them for everything.

In the feature, I also share some of the more personal chapters of my journey, including moving to Australia with very limited resources, navigating uncertainty, and the inner shift that changed how I understood leadership and success.

Looking back, some of the biggest turning points in my business began with the moments that challenged me most.
