I couldn’t make this s**t up if I tried.
Tossing up whether I post the screenshots or not and finally decided fk it, because this is so much more than a coincidence.
When you put your site side by side on another business that has the same name, it shouldn’t look and sound the same. The Brandologist is not a name that can be trademarked in Aus, and there was already a book on ‘Brandology’ when I did launch, and an empty but registered Brandologist.com. Those were things I accepted to come with this name. Despite the fact there are others out there, all of my brand is me - original as f**k, and if you know me you know this is how I am in person.
I never copied a whole brand to get here, I never called myself a brand specialist then decided to steal all of my brand. I’ve been running this baby for almost 6 years under this name, prior to that it was Edwards creative. The idea for the name came about one night just after a massive surgery, when I was trying to distract myself from pain, thinking of how I can combine the idea of psychology + branding in one name.
I thought of it, quickly googled it, then registered it when I realised the only similar brand was a book. I’ve seen others pop up over the years and not given it a second thought - but this one is way too close to home. Like, it’s sitting outside my window just watching. And it’s now 3rd in Google results with no way to easily tell it isn’t me - the offers are identical, the micro copy is a ChatGPT version of me, and her name is hard to find.
I’ve sent dmca requests to Google & hosting sites - Google accepted 2/4 pages and has deindexed them, the hosting didn’t accept any.
I know clients have already been confused and luckily the one that reached out realised they were on the wrong site..
It all feels pointless to even be posting it but I don’t know what else to do here, except put out the note that THIS IS NOT ME.
I’ve spent too long on my branding to rebrand, and this is too authentic to me to even want to. I’m just gonna keep doing my thing.
All the best, kind regards, sincere apologies,
The OG Brandologist
