Franchiser's like Nandos have no shame. The blame also goes to the Australian government for not giving adequate protections to the Franchisees. Couple of days back I went to our local shopping centre only to find out that 90% of the businesses are Franchisees. It is shocking and scary at the same time. With shop rents from $10k to $25K per month, I am absolutely sure that either everyone would be struggling to break even let alone making profit.

Franchisers should not be allowed to do renovations within the first 5 years, every franchisee should be allowed to spend on their own marketing as well. I would strongly urge all the Nandos franchisees to collectively put pressure on Nandos to make the changes or sell it back to them just like some have and recover your hard earned money.

From a recent news article:

Australia and New Zealand saw a 15 per cent decline in shopping centre visits in 2018 compared with the previous year, according to a UBS survey of more than 14,000 consumers across 14 Asia-Pacific countries.

In Australia, 93 per cent of respondents were aware of Amazon, 22 per cent had purchased an item and around 40 per cent said they were planning to.
