A recent project for Central Coast Council, creating historical photo boards for Umina Library.

Each panel focuses on a different aspect of local history — from wartime activity to beach culture and everyday life on the Peninsula. The boards are designed to catch attention from a distance, but reward closer inspection as well.

One of the things I enjoyed most about this project was learning more about the place I’ve lived and worked in for the past 15+ years, and seeing how much it’s changed — but also how much has stayed the same

Also very satisfying: driving past the building every other day and seeing people stop to look at something I made ☺️

I’ve been working with on this year’s tee design, which has just been announced. As well as investing myself creatively in this event, I’m also putting my body on the line — I’m running the 100km ultra (yes, you read that right).

Will I finish, or will I DNF in spectacular fashion?

At least if I’m wearing this tee, my fashion will be spectacular either way 🥴

Belconnen: Scenes from a Memory

Part of an illustrated side project exploring how places are experienced and remembered — not just how they’re geographically laid out.

This one’s based on growing up in Belco in the 80s and 90s. Not strictly accurate (intentionally), just a collection of things that feel familiar if you know the area (and if you do know the area I’m curious to hear what you recognise).

I’m very proud to have been involved in the new NSW Anti-Bullying Framework, announced this week by the NSW Government. Developed by Professor Donna Cross (Australia’s leading expert on the prevention of bullying) in conjunction with and NSW schools from all sectors, this framework represents the most comprehensive (and I hope, effective) set of anti-bullying guidelines in the country. I was tasked with bringing the framework to life visually, creating diagrams and iconography to explain how the components work together, and then rolling out key materials such as factsheets, reference documents and social media graphics to help teachers and the community learn about and embed key practices.

As the mother of three school-aged kids I’m only too aware of how pervasive and damaging bullying is, so it was an absolute privilege to be involved in this project — and a very satisfying way to end the working year.

I’m now looking for projects for 2026 (whether a statewide framework, backyard brand or anything in between) so get in touch if you have one!

It’s the most wonderful time of year … yes—the time when I put more case studies on the website! Three (kinda) fresh projects for your viewing pleasure, including how to make zero budget stretch to be the most fun you’ve ever had as a designer, doing a rebrand with a pink zebra for inspiration, and creating a community resource that is actually useful. Much like the Black Friday sales, if you’re lucky you may not hear from me again for another 365 days … So enjoy 💁🏻‍♀️

Before my kids started primary school I never could’ve guessed how integral the school itself would become to all of us. It has obviously given my children so much (and not only from an education standpoint), but I never could’ve guessed how much it would’ve given me personally. So I was honoured to be able to give back to the school by designing its five mascots, and bringing them all together in this mural which now stands proudly at the school’s entrance. Public schools barely have enough funding to support the plethora of needs presented by a wildly varying demographic, let alone to be able to afford nice things that simply bring joy. It is up to parents to raise money for nice-to-haves like this mural, and it was the least I could do to donate my services to bring it to life. So I guess as well as being a post about a recent project, this is also a post about the state of funding for public schools, who are so important to our entire community whether you have kids in one or not. We all need to do what we can to make these environments welcoming, safe and inspiring for kids and teachers alike.

As usual it’s been about 723 years since I updated the project case studies on designandopinion.com but I’m pleased to say there are now a few new ones up there including work for , and . I’m also ashamed to say it has taken 8 actual years (for real) for me to get around to posting one of the ‘new’ case studies ... try to guess which one! (there may be a prize. or not, I haven’t decided)

Dear friends, clients, colleagues and collaborators,

To celebrate the end of the year I’ve made this little video especially for my friends, clients, colleagues and collaborators.

I tried to come up with a clever idea … a cute way to sum up the last 12 months. But all I could think of is to say:

Thanks.

– For trusting me with your projects
– For pushing me to do better
– For helping this little design shop stay open for another year

I sincerely mean it when I say I could not continue to do what I love if it wasn’t for YOU.

Do it again next year?

The studio will be closed from December 18 to January 8, but as always you can email me any time and I’ll do my best to get straight back to you — whether it’s from the top of a mountain, skate ramp, rock wall or wave (ok, maybe not that last one).

All the best
Katherine

It’s been a very long time since I’ve posted anything on here—always a sign of a busy studio (and/or a personal aversion to social media). But this project for World Teachers’ Day is close to my heart because I’m married to one. The theme for 2023 is ‘gems’ (as in, teachers are. And they ARE). As well as creating these little animations I designed a bunch of social media graphics, posters and icons for use on an interactive map where you can uncover your teacher gem. From personal experience I can say our community is chock full of them 💎
