Why Taylor Swift gets top marks for marketing.

I don't know if Taylor Swift went to business college. And if she didn't, then she's a one of those natural marketers. Power to her!

You've got to admire how she uses anticipation and hype to promote her latest album.

By now, nearly everyone knows Midnights just hit!

She released her 10th studio album, giving fans a lot to break down in the lyrics of the 13 new tracks.

The album's release came after a weeks-long promotional period.

She has been very, very busy.

Swift revealed the track's titles, spilled the meaning behind some songs, released a Thursday Night Football teaser, and even shared a few lyrics to keep fans excited about the impending release.

Now that's a great example of how to launch a product and knock it out of the park.

Are your Facebook ads not working?

I’ve had the opportunity to run hundreds of thousands of dollars in Facebook advertising over the years. And I still get to audit quite a few Facebook accounts as well.

And what I found is that when a business owner is not happy with the results he’s getting from Facebook; there is nearly one constant reason for it.

And that one reason is that there is no compelling “CTA” in the ad.

And what is a “CTA”, you ask?

Well, the “CTA” is what compelling reason makes a prospect want to click on your ad to learn more.

So when advertising, you still need to let visitors know what action you want them to take with a clear call to action.

Otherwise, you’re paying Facebook for ad views, not clicks, traffic, or conversions.

And in online marketing, that is a deadly sin.

A problem that results in millions and millions of dollars of wasted online advertising spend.

And so many frustrated business owners who want to make their advertising work.

So the moral of the story is that if you want your online advertising to work, then always use a "compelling" CTA.

One of the best CTA's I used over the years is using an online promotion that gives the prospect a strong reason to click.

What Apple can teach car companies about making customers feel special.

I recently had 20 minutes to spare at our local shopping mall here in Brisbane. And I was curious about the new Automall that had recently opened. You could call it a supermarket for cars outlet in a shopping mall.

I was impressed by the size, scale and quality of fit out. And all the vehicles looked shiny and new. But I couldn’t help but compare the experience to what I just went through two days earlier when my wife Julie purchased a new iPhone at Brisbane’s flagship Apple Store.

The first thing you notice is how Apple greeted everyone at the front door when they arrived. And then, an Apple representative talked about how they could best direct them to a person in customer service.

It was almost like an appointment at an upscale boutique.

When I compare the two experiences, Automall made me feel anonymous, like every other shopper.

Nothing special. Just wandering through and soaking up some spare time.

And I guess it is because the Automall is really a marketing test by the car companies to see how a direct-to-consumer sales model could work for them. Sort of a copy of the Elon Musk's approach at Tesla.

However, the experience felt soulless. I have no doubt it will appeal to others who value convenience above the special buying experience provided by Apple.

And so, I conclude there are always different product offerings for different consumers.

Some value convenience and saving time about all else.

Others favour feeling special.

And ultimately, I’m pretty sure the customers who want to feel special are those who are a long-time Apple fans and appreciate the special buying journey.

They will be the most loyal consumers over the long haul. All because Apple makes them feel special.

Can you get Google reviews removed?

According to Bright local research, 62% of consumers have seen a fake review in the last year. With 77% of consumers always or regularly reading online reviews for local businesses, and around 50% of consumers trusting reviews as much as personal recommendations, the proliferation of fake reviews is a looming problem for business owners.

If you've ever experienced a fake or negative Google review, you know how frustrating it can be. You may be wondering if there's anything you can do to get the review removed. While Google doesn't guarantee that they'll remove reviews, there are steps you can take to try to get them removed.

Reviews that violate Google’s policies can be removed. A tool called Managing Your Reviews is available to flag up offending reviews, request their removal, and monitor the status of the request.

Why your business is not showing up near the top of Google's search results and what to do about it.

A frustrated business owner told me recently that a local competitor was starting to get traction in his area. But he had a more established business and felt he was getting overtaken.

And further, he wanted to know why his business was not showing up near the top of the search results for his business.

Being a local business, he should be appearing in what is called the local three-pack. That is at the top of the Google search engine results when a potential customer makes an online search in his area for the type of products.

These search results are what Google thinks are the most relevant businesses in the location closest to where the customer searched. They are distinct from what is known as organic search results. And those exist in the remaining search results.

Of the roughly 40,000 Google searches worldwide every second, about half of them are search queries with what is called local intent. So users search online for some information about a business they want to do business with.

It's been proven that over 90 per cent of Google searches with local intent will include a local pack with the results. And more telling is about 50% of users making a local search on the phone will visit a nearby business concerning this query within 24 hours. Further, 78% of these searches will result in an offline sale shortly.

So coming back to the client's question, the first thing to do is claim the local business profile.

And secondly, optimise it with relevant information.

Claiming a business profile involves filling out the various sections of Google's online form and including some photos of the business.

So when a user searches online, whether you appear in the local pack depends on the following three factors.

• Proximity—how close your business is to the user
• Prominence—how popular your business is
• Relevance—how closely matched your business is to the search query

One of the best things you can do to improve your local search results is to make sure that you choose the right business category when you set up the profile. And it is possible to have multiple business categories to help Google understand your business is relevant to the search results.
