When I was 14 was when I first learnt about modelling for the catwalk, and through my decades of doing dance as performance, I learnt to do my own hair and make up for film/photography, or theatre stages. I started doing Musical Theatre at 14, and I became a professional dancer in my 20s, after I did degree in Musical Theatre. You could say that I've always loved performing or presenting professio

nally to audiences on film or on stage. I continued to sing in choirs throughout my 30s, whilst raising my children. And I began social partner swing dancing in my 40s as a dancing hobby. These days, I have returned to modelling again on film through commercials, videos, catwalk again, and with photography. I've even found some courage in my 50s to do some bo***ir modelling. Something in my 20s that I would never have had the courage to do. haha It's funny that now, in my later years, I'm finding more courage to do some things that are different and new. Indoor rock climbing and mountain climbing are also new things that I've started to do these days, thanks to my boyfriend Andrew. And I've returned to the stage again now, with a local theatre group - performing Improv Comedy. Today I submitted my entry for the Next Top Speaker Season 5 (2026).

The theme this round is Love Is the Answer.

For me, this wasn’t just a speaking topic.

It became deeply personal story.

For years I’ve helped people win business awards.
I understand judges.
I understand storytelling.

But there was one place in my life where I kept losing.

Love.

This speech shares the moment that changed forever, how I see relationships — it holds a quiet realisation for me, where sometimes the biggest transformation doesn’t happen in a grand gesture…

…it happens in a single pause.

A breath.

A moment where fear stops making the decision for you.

No matter what happens in the competition, I’m proud to share this story.

Because if it helps even one person pause before walking away from something that could be healed…

then it was worth telling.

Tonight I want to give a heartfelt shout-out and thank you to the incredible men and women of our local Brisbane Fire & Emergency Services and Police 🙏🚒🚓

At 9:05pm, just as I was settling into bed, the fire alarm bells began ringing loudly through my apartment building.

Given this is the third time in my life I’ve faced the necessity of evacuating due to a house fire, I’ll admit I felt a moment of fear and concern.

Also, after discovering it was an act of arson involving a wheelie bin placed into one of the lifts 😧

Thankfully though, it was identified, managed, and resolved quickly and safely once emergency services arrived.

All residents were calmly informed outside, and within about an hour we were safely ushered back into our homes — which is an impressively fast resolution in circumstances like these.

I’m now back in bed, safe and sound, feeling incredibly grateful and reassured. I’ll sleep well tonight knowing how swiftly, professionally, and bravely our servicemen and women responded to protect our community.

Thank you for all that you do — often unseen, always appreciated 💙✨

🎉 Today the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge turns 1! 🥳

Brisbane City Council is celebrating with free cupcakes and coffee — and I’m sitting here under the bridge for shade, beside the cool flowing river, soaking in the city views and feeling incredibly grateful. 🌞🌿

This past year living in Kangaroo Point has been such a blessing — a short walk to the city, QUT Botanic Gardens just across the bridge, and this place has truly shaped so many of my routines and relationships.

This bridge doesn’t just connect two sides of the Brisbane River — it connects moments and memories:

🚶‍♀️ Morning walks across the river with friends
🚴‍♂️ Weekend e-bike rides with my boyfriend
🌊 Quiet afternoons sitting on the river rocks, watching ferries glide by

I love that it connects and strengthens friendships, sparks joy, and spiritually grounds me every day. 💛

A few days ago, I was spiralling over a presentation. Worried I wouldn’t remember the lines I’d planned. Overthinking… as you do.

Then my friend Angie Hill - Lifestyle Designer, reminded me of something I didn’t even realise I needed:

“Lara, ditch the script. You already know this. Speak from your heart. Trust yourself, breathe, read the room… and ask one question: Who can relate?”

And just like that, the pressure dissolved. I stepped back into myself.
