Tomorrow is more than remembering soldiers who made the greatest sacrifice one could make. Tomorrow is a time for us to reflect on our ancestors, brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, grand fathers, uncles, aunts, and so many more. Family members who are merely distant faces on faded pictures, who gave their life so we could live in freedom today.
My brother is a veteran of the Iran/Iraq battles of the 1980s/1990s. He was 16 years of age when he lied on his application to join the NZRAF. They sent him home and told him to return the next year. Which he did faithfully. All he wanted to do was serve his country, make a difference and help people. After 15 years in the defence force he retired having done more than many of us could ever accomplish. He served his country, his people and our family well. Tomorrow he carries the NZ Flag in one of the many ANZAC parades being held across Australia. As his little sister, I will proudly stand by and watch him march with many others.
So ANZAC day, is a time for us to pause, to remember and honour the brave souls who served and sacrificed for our freedom. Their unwavering courage and selflessness will forever be etched in our hearts and minds.
Today, we pay tribute to your enduring legacy and to reflect on the profound impact of your service. Your courage inspires us, your sacrifice humbles us, and your memory will forever be cherished.
As we gather in remembrance, let us honour their legacy by striving for peace, unity, and compassion in our communities and beyond.
Lest we forget. 🕊️🇦🇺🇳🇿
