Ever clicked one of these thinking it was just another article?

Those "recommended from the web" boxes at the bottom of news sites. They look like links to more content, but they're not, they're ads.

Most people know what a display ad looks like. Banner, sidebar, sponsored tag, easy to scroll past because your brain has learned to filter it out. A native ad works differently. It's built to match the look and feel of the platform it's on, same format, same style, same placement as the actual content, so it doesn't register as an ad at all. That's the whole strategy, it earns the click because it doesn't look like it's trying to.

So how does the right native ad end up on the right site in front of the right person? That's where programmatic comes in. It's the automated system matching ads to people based on things like browsing behaviour and interests.
