Alan Ritchson Just Landed Netflix’s No.1 Movie And It’s Not “Reacher”
If you thought Alan Ritchson ruled streaming because of Reacher… think again.
The action star just dropped a huge sci fi movie on Netflix. And it’s already sitting at the very top of the global charts.
The film is called “War Machine”. It reportedly cost around $80 million to make. And right now, it’s giving Ritchson his biggest streaming win outside of his hit TV series.
So what’s the hype about?
“War Machine” throws Ritchson into a brutal military mission that quickly goes off the rails. A group of elite soldiers head into a deadly Army Ranger selection exercise. Then things turn strange fast.
→ The team runs into a mysterious machine that feels almost alien
→ Chaos breaks out as the soldiers try to survive
→ Explosions, heavy combat and a relentless robotic threat take over
It’s loud, violent and built for pure action fans.
Patrick Hughes directs the film, clearly leaning into what Ritchson does best. Physical action. Intimidating screen presence. And the kind of gritty hero that doesn’t say much but still controls the room.
The cast around him is stacked too. Dennis Quaid plays Sergeant Major Sheridan, while Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Stephan James, Keiynan Lonsdale, Daniel Webber and Blake Richardson round out the squad.
But here’s the twist.
Ritchson isn’t playing another confident bruiser like Jack Reacher. In “War Machine” he plays a quieter soldier known as 81. The character is more withdrawn and clearly dealing with the mental scars of war.
Collider writer Aidan Kelley said the film blends ideas from Predator and Terminator. It mixes an alien style threat with a destructive machine villain chasing the soldiers across the battlefield.
The robot itself might not reinvent the genre. But the movie still delivers a fun ride for streaming audiences who want big action and bigger explosions.
And the biggest win?
“War Machine” proves Ritchson might be more than just a TV action star. If the movie holds its spot on Netflix’s chart through the weekend, it could be the moment he officially breaks into blockbuster territory.
Not bad for the guy most people still call “the Reacher guy.”
“War Machine” is streaming now on Netflix.
