I've barely had time to breath this year- I've somehow managed to schedule just a TOUCH too much work at the same time (miraculously, all amazing book-ish brands?!)

What better time is there to take on even more? Late last year I signed up to House of Gai's AI Branding Masterclass course. I wanted to to tip my toes into AI and see how the technology could be used in the brand strategy and identity design process.

There's a BIG OL stigma in design circles- nobody wants to talk about the robots taking over, much less admit to using their technology. Most creatives I see have a blanket 'absolutely not' stance and believe putting their heads in the sand will mean the issue passes us over. I (personally) don't think thats very likely so have looked to try and educate myself on whats available so I can best leverage it as a tool (not a replacement of me).

Having just finished up the course, I've learnt so much and wanted to share my thoughts on AI as a competitor AND as a collaborator.

I asked AI to create some visuals of 'the future of graphic design' and was surprised to see see these nature-fueled hallucinations in the mix. Maybe the future is a little different then we think?

// Curious People 10.

This month's Curious Person is Amber Ladd (from Read Only Studio ), a creative director and fellow brand designer. Together, we explored the theme of 'A Designer Wishlist' where, frankly, we combined forces to create our ideal shopping wishlists. It's true- sometimes the simplest idea is the best!

You can see an interview with Amber and see our collaborative Pinterest board here-

An Australiana brand inspo is possible beyond flora and fauna- these textures (created for Heartstory Photography are inspired by rippling water, scribbly gum bark and even mineral-dense rock formations.

Part collage, part background texture- these assets are perfectly primed for use across social media, the website and various documents.

When designing social media templates for family photographers Heartstory Photography, it was especially important that the designs balanced the primary visual- the photography!

By creating a colour palette around the natural tones featured in outdoor shoots, the templated graphics can seamlessly work with surrounding imagery without distracting or overwhelming content.

Why should supporting illustrations be used in just one way?

Here you can see the suite of floral illustrations (inspired by Australian natives) as part of the Heartstory Photography brand identity. These graphic illustrations can be combined with the custom textures for a subtle feel OR can be used in block colours for a more impactful embellishment to social media designs.
