Look ... I bloody love buying things on Amazon that arrive the next day. I can't walk out of Kmart without spending $200 (ok, $300). And I have most definitely purchased 90% of the decorations for my upcoming wedding from Temu. Judge me all you want - I'm trying to host an event for 100 people in a time when filling the car with petrol costs MORE than my wedding dress (haha true story for another day).
But you know what else I've tried to do? I've tried to use as many local vendors, services and suppliers as possible. Very very local. I hate leaving my suburb 😂 so knowing that I only have to drive 5 minutes to get things is the absolute best.
The bouquets, the dressmaker, the lady taking up the hems of the boys' pants, the custom made ring, the cake, the natural confetti, the macarons, our photographers, hair and makeup ladies, table flowers, our amazing celebrant. Damn there's a lot of things!
But shopping local is just SO GREAT if you can do it. The people I've met, the chats, the awesome stories of incredible women who are running their own full-time or side hustles. Wandering into the yards of local streets I've never driven down and popping my head into garages that have been converted into so many amazing home-based businesses. Trawling through the local Facebook community pages looking for recommendations. There are JUST SO MANY brilliant women doing fabulous things out there!
Who do you love to buy from that is local to you? What business are you running in the spare room of your house? I'd love to hear all about it!
I guess all I'm saying is that I know it's not always possible to buy local, but how about we all just agree to do more of it WHEN WE CAN?! You in?
