PIKININI BAR OPENS NEW OUTLET AT PORT VILA AIRPORT GREEN PARK

Pikinini Bar has opened a new outlet at Touch Vanuatu inside the Port Vila Airport Green Park, around five minutes’ walk from the domestic and international airport terminals, marking another step in the local business’s expansion across Port Vila. The outlet follows construction work announced in August, when decking was being completed ahead of the launch. The new location adds to Pikinini Bar’s growing network of fresh juice outlets and offers customers fresh fruit drinks, coffee, pastries and other refreshments in an open-air setting near the airport. The business is also developing another outlet at VNPF Plaza (Centerpoint), where locally designed signage has already been installed. Pikinini Bar’s expansion continues its focus on promoting fresh Vanuatu fruit products while creating additional market opportunities for local farmers.

VODAFONE NETWORK OPERATES AGAIN ON MOTALAVA ISLAND

Vodafone network services are operating again on Motalava Island, according to Torres Constituency MP John Joseph.

MP Joseph said he confirmed the restoration on Friday evening after making a test video call from Motalava to Port Vila. He said the successful call showed that Vodafone network coverage had returned and was functioning on the area.

This also means people on Motalava can now use the Vodafone network again to make phone calls and access the internet.

MP Joseph said further work is still planned before the official launch of the service and acknowledged Vodafone Vanuatu for its support in restoring network connectivity to Motalava.

FAR FROM HOME, BUT STILL FAMILY

For ni-Vanuatu travelling overseas, a familiar face can make a foreign country feel like home. Whether the journey is for sport, work, tourism or women’s group activities, the welcome from fellow ni-Vanuatu living abroad shows how strong our community bond remains across borders.

In Australia, that support can come through a shared meal, a contribution of cash or simply a visit to sit down and storian. Each gesture carries something meaningful: the chance to reconnect, hear news from home and spend time with people who share the same roots.

The same spirit is seen in Fiji, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea to Tahiti and New Zealand. When football teams and community groups arrive from Vanuatu, ni-Vanuatu living in those countries come forward to support them. Their presence brings encouragement and a sense of belonging, especially for those travelling overseas for the first time.

These connections also mean something to the people offering support. Welcoming visitors from home gives those living abroad an opportunity to reconnect with their community, language and culture. A simple gathering becomes a shared reminder of where everyone comes from.

This is a strength of Vanuatu’s community life: distance does not end our responsibility to one another. Wherever our people travel or settle, the spirit of sharing, caring and standing together continues. Far from home, we still find family.

VANUATU MADE MUSIC LAB FEATURES 10 LOCAL ARTISTS AND PRODUCERS

Vanuatu Made Music Lab now features music from 10 local artists and producers available for MP3 download, according to an announcement shared by Stanley Wai.

The lineup includes Cornerstone Revelations, YG Jahfred, Joshua Leo, Copral Marliie, Boyderaz featuring Wyka, Kele Productions, Mr Hoobz, X Boy, Killy Fyah and KDC Productions. Releases range from 500 VT to 1,500 VT, including EPs, individual releases and the Trade Show 2026 Compilation.

Among the featured titles are Cornerstone Revelations’ Liklik Faea EP, Joshua Leo’s Yu Always Stap EP, X Boy’s Stopm Corruption and Killy Fyah’s Love Like Water EP. Listeners can redeem a code through the platform to download their music.

PENAMA PEOC LEADS MANARO ASHFALL RESPONSE AS DAMAGE TO WATER AND CROPS CONTINUES

The Penama Provincial Emergency Operations Centre (PEOC) is continuing to lead and coordinate the provincial response to the impacts of volcanic ashfall from Manaro on Ambae.

According to an update shared on social media, the response is focused on four priority areas: water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), infrastructure, food security and livelihoods.

Images circulating online show thick ash covering gardens, food crops and vegetation, while some local water sources appear discoloured and potentially contaminated. The conditions highlight the serious challenges facing affected communities, particularly access to safe drinking water and locally grown food.

The PEOC said more than 49,950 litres of water produced by the HELPR-1 desalination plant have been distributed through water-trucking operations to communities in three Ambae area councils and St Patrick College.

Water trucking will continue to meet immediate needs, while authorities carry out projects intended to improve access to water over the longer term.

Unlike earlier emergency responses that relied heavily on distributing bottled water, the current operation also includes building, repairing and upgrading community water systems.

Planned works include drilling for water in West Ambae and North Pentecost, rehabilitating the Sarambulu water source in South Ambae and extending its supply system to Lovuibanga.

In North Pentecost, authorities are also planning to repair and upgrade water systems and maintain roads. Improved road access is expected to help response teams reach affected communities and deliver essential supplies and services.

The Penama Provincial Government and PEOC have acknowledged the VT126 million approved by the Council of Ministers to support provincial response plans developed by the different emergency clusters.

The response is designed to provide immediate relief while strengthening water and infrastructure systems to make communities more resilient to future disasters.

The operation is being supported by relevant agencies, including the Department of Water Resources, Ministry of Internal Affairs, National Disaster Management Office and HELPR-1.
