🏔️ A message to every Nepali family in and around Brisbane…
Please read this carefully. It may be one of the most important things you read this year.
Think about the future - maybe 20 or 30 years from now.
We may not be here anymore. But our children and grandchildren will be. They are living in Australia. They are busy with their own lives. But somewhere inside them, there is a feeling, something is missing. They don't always know what it is. It is their Nepali roots. It is their culture. It is you.
Now imagine this:
One day, your child or grandchild walks into the Queensland Nepalese Cultural Centre right here in Brisbane. Maybe they came for a festival. Maybe a friend told them about it. Maybe they just felt pulled to come, they are not sure why.
Inside, they find a Wall of Honour.
On this wall, names are written in gold. These are the names of families who helped build this centre. Families who said: "This is important. Our children are important. Our culture is important."
Your child or grandchild slowly reads the names on the wall. And then, they start looking for your name.
Maybe it is your son, now grown, with his own children. Maybe it is your granddaughter, who was born here in Australia but feels Nepali in her heart. They read every name, one by one, hoping to find yours.
What will they find?
This is the question we want you to think about today. Not to make you feel bad. But to ask you, kindly and honestly, to think about this moment.
We have already given so much to our children. We worked hard. We sacrificed a lot. Many of us moved to another country so our children could have a better life. But a better life is not just about money or education. It is also about knowing who they are, where their family comes from, what their culture is, what language their grandparents spoke, and what made them Nepali.
The Queensland Nepalese Cultural Centre in Brisbane is not just a building.
It is a place where your grandchild can eat dal bhat and feel completely at home. Where they can hear Nepali spoken and feel something wake up inside them. Where they can come to practise their faith, say their prayers, or simply light a candle of hope. Where they can learn about Nepal and feel proud of where they come from.
And on its Wall of Honour - your name can be there. Written literally in gold. Waiting for them.
Becoming a Life Member or making a donation is one of the best things you can do, not just for the community, but for your own children and grandchildren. It is an investment in their future, in their pride, and in their connection to Nepal.
The cultural centre and the "wall of honour" will be built. The names will be added to the wall.
Please do not let the day come when your children look for your name and cannot find it.
