It is believed that the frappe was invented in 1957 at the International Trade Fair in Thessaloniki, when one of the participants of the exhibition could not find boiling water for brewing instant coffee and shook it with cold water and ice. Ingredients: 50-60 ml of freshly boiled doppio 100 ml of cold milk (3.5% fat content)

According to legend, it was invented by Italian waiters so as not to confuse ordinary espresso with coffee with milk. Such coffee is served in ceramic, porcelain or glass cups. Macchiato, along with other types of coffee with milk, is used as a base in latte art (artistic infusion of foamed milk into espresso).

Americano was invented by Italians who faced an influx of American soldiers during World War II. American soldiers ordered coffee, but Italian espresso was not to their liking: the cup was too small, and the taste was too rich.
