Country ‌music star ‌Dolly Parton ‌has ⁠died peacefully at her Tennessee home, aged 80.

The musician was best known for her genre-defining hits including 9 To 5, I Will Always Love You and Jolene.

"My name is Brian Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I'm representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean," Parton's nephew said in a message on Instagram.

"Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next."

WOW!! 🎉 Canberra Innovation Network hosted an amazing First Wednesday Connect at Verity Lane Market in Civic on Wednesday! Thank you to University of NSW for sponsoring!

I was one of the 60 second pitchers and I used my time identifying a specific target audience in the room for our upcoming Growth Accountability Program (GAP):
- ACT Business Owners
- five or fewer team members
- home office

I wore a hat and carried my ‘little black book’ and asked the identified people to come and see me after the pitches…guess what…it worked a treat!!! I had business owners lining up to give me their details! Thanks to everyone who came up to me and your information brochures are being sent out this weekend! If you don’t receive a brochure I’m afraid I couldn’t read your writing sorry 😞 but just flick us an email and we’ll get one out to you asap!

Great networking day on Thursday (30 July), meeting some amazing small business owners!

It was a long day starting with breakfast in the city with Canberra Innovation Network and finishing with Canberra Business Chamber and their Business after Business event at Contentious Character Winery on Kingston Fireshore.

Fascinating event held earlier today at CBR Business Connect 2026 hosted by the City & Environment Directorate Office in Dickson Canberra.

Great panel of speakers discussing ‘Doing business in Canberra: Risks, Resilience & the road ahead. Heard from Morgan Ferrier MAICD (Industry Capabilty Network ACT), Jane Brownbill (President Canberra Women in Business),Jack Cassidy (Canberra Innovation Network) and Belinda Neame (The Forage).

The panel members discussed Canberra business leaders and support organisations exploring challenges, resilience, innovation, and consumer trends affecting local businesses.

Key Takeaways:
•Businesses, especially newer and innovative ones, face challenges being taken seriously by decision-makers resistant to risk, threatening economic diversity.
•Information overload and lack of time are significant, under-discussed challenges; defending personal bandwidth is crucial for progress.
•Resilience is built through setbacks; re-framing them as opportunities and leaning on community support are key strategies.
•Canberra consumers prioritise 'value with purpose'—balancing cost-consciousness with willingness to pay for quality, convenience, sustainability, and positive experiences.
•A major myth is that ACT businesses only focus locally; in reality, they have strong national and international ambitions and export potential per capita is the highest here in Canberra.
•Foundational business actions include leaning into strengths, listening to customers, and seeking help when needed.
•Navigating government opportunities requires proactive customer validation and using support networks to cut through information noise.

My key takeaway is that there is a LOT of support for ACT businesses - however; not everyone knows where or who those support teams are. So it was great having all the expo tables of support from the various organisations that can support my business & my clients’ businesses - now and into the future! 😃

While managing an event from concept to delivery is our bread and butter, sometimes a client just needs a little help to get across the finish line!

Kings Junction Marketing & Events was recently approached to help out one such client - just 10 days out from the event! It was through no fault of their own & we were happy to assist.

In no time at all, we were creating social media ads, writing the Event Plan, the Risk Management plan, dealing with printers, council applications, arranging Public Liability Insurance, liaising with speakers and creating the PowerPoint presentation (with the usual on-the-day changes).

Done & Dusted! ✅🎉

The client was extremely happy and said they couldn’t have gotten the event over the line without us - words that remind us why we love our work! 🥰

Great networking event tonight at Hotel Realm by CWB! Got to meet fellow women business owners in Canberra - they were all super impressive and certainly made some great contacts who I can work with for Kings Junction events and others who I can assist with their business branding, marketing and events.

It was interesting seeing how many business owners were interested in our videography services as this is something we are really gearing up for, so definitely on the right track there! I also shared our upcoming launch of our new business offering with the Growth and Accountability Program for small business owners and they were really supportive of this great program too - more on this next month everyone.
