Banana has escaped the fruit bowl 🍌 This year we’ve seen it show up in coffee, matcha, cereal, granola, milk, water, chocolate and more!

So why banana?

We think it’s because nobody needs it explained to them.

A lot of emerging flavour trends come with an education job attached. Consumers might need to learn what ube, yuzu or even pistachio cream is before deciding whether they want it.

But banana has the opposite advantage.

It’s familiar, affordable and instantly recognisable. The marketing opportunity comes from putting it somewhere people aren’t expecting to find it.

So when a brand asks us whether they need a completely new ingredient to create something exciting, our answer is usually no.

Sometimes the smarter innovation formula is:
familiar ingredient + unexpected format = lower barrier to trial ✅

And if current forecasts are right, peak banana may still be 12 months away. Let’s just say we know at least one brand we’re working with that plans to be very well timed for it 👀

From mock-ups to shelves - it’s always a good day when we spot the work we designed out in the real world 🫶🙌

Our client Harvest Box Box has just launched Just Fruit into Costco Wholesale Australia so naturally we had to make a trip and pick up a bag ourselves!

We came for Just Fruit, and ended up spotting a few more Harvest Box packs we’d worked on along the way!

There’s something especially rewarding about seeing the small designs made early on, like pack layout to how the product should stand out at shelf, finally doing their job in a real retail environment ✨

🌏 Aussie brands are going global - FUNDAY Natural Sweets is rolling into 1,300 US Target stores, and Mr. Chen’s Dumplings just landed in Tesco UK. Two very different categories, same story: local brands have serious global appetite right now.

🥑 Holy Moly, Britain’s favourite smashed avo brand, just chose Australia as its first market outside Europe, landing in 1,000+ Woolworths stores from today. Walking straight into the home of avo on toast culture is a bold first move.

🍫 Toblerone x Biscoff Pralines are heading to Big W and Woolies! And when two flavours with this much brand loyalty combine, the collab sells itself before it hits the shelf

💪 Protein has found a new home (the snack aisle). Impulsive Chips are now at Kmart, and functional ingredients are quietly making their way into formats people already love: chips, lollies, chocolate and more

Missed Fine Food Australia this year? We took notes ✍

We visited one of the country’s leading B2B food industry events. And after walking the show floor, these were 5 trends we’ll be keeping an eye on Australian shelves for 👉

Tthe products that stood out to us weren’t just “new”. They were easy to understand, easy to sample, easy to photograph and easy to imagine in a real retail, foodservice or social media post.

What else did you see on the floor? Let us know!

🌶️ Condiments becoming flavour heroes.

Flying Goose and Noelzy’s Chilli Sauces were great examples of how chilli is becoming less of an “extra” and more of an everyday flavour staple. The data backs it up, with new and creative sauces seeing some of the strongest growth in Australia’s cooking category.

🔥 The Alternative Dairy Co.’s Ube Iced Latte and Rooftop Bees Yuzu Honey showed how global flavours are becoming easier for Australian consumers to recognise, trial and enjoy.

Matcha, wasabi, Asian-inspired formats, and bolder flavour profiles are no longer sitting only in niche food spaces - they’re moving into more accessible FMCG and CPG formats.

❗More brands are using obvious front-of-pack messaging, strong typography and clearer visual cues to communicate quickly.

Franuí and 7 Chefs are great examples of brands using packaging designed to grab attention and be understood at a glance. This matters when brands are competing for attention on shelf and on screen.

🧊  Protein ice-cream, Isotonic sparkling waters, and athlete-endorsed The Pickle Juice Company pickle juice shots are just the tip of the iceburg.

Functional products are becoming more common everyday. But the best examples still delivered on flavour, texture and occasion. Because a benefit might get attention, but taste drives repeat purchase.

🍠 Sweet potato showed up in both sweet and savoury snackable formats, from Korean-inspired buns to vegetable chips.

It’s familiar enough to feel approachable, but versatile enough to be made new again - which is exactly the kind of ingredient behaviour worth watching in snacking.

900+ exhibitors, 25,000+ attendees, endless samples and one very important lesson…Never eat breakfast before a food expo.

From emerging food businesses to familiar names bringing fresh ideas to the table, it was so good to spend the day trying new foods and connecting with the people behind the products.

More on what new trends and flavours caught our eye coming soon 👀

We’ve been noticing something on shelves lately - beverage brands rotating their logos sideways, and it’s everywhere right now 🥤

We’re calling it and part of it is practical:
👉Slim cans don’t give you much horizontal space, but they’ve got plenty of height.

But also, partof it is the sheer competition on shelf:
👉 When everything around you is bold and bright, brands lean harder into the one thing that’s exclusively theirs: their name!

Which brand do you think is nailing it right now? 👇

Food brands creeping into the beauty aisle was not on our 2026 marketing bingo card!

Allen’s × Lanolips, MCoBeauty × Cadbury, and FUNDAY × Vaseline have all landed this year, and there’s a pretty clear lesson in the way they’re using collaboration.

For marketers and social media managers, the opportunity goes beyond reach.

A strong collab can help reposition a brand, make it feel more culturally relevant, and create a product people actually want to talk about.

The sweet spot is when:
🍭the partnership changes how people see the brand
🍭 the idea is unexpected enough to earn attention
🍭 the product still makes sense once the novelty wears off

That last point matters. Ehrenberg-Bass research found consumers can be up to 2.5× more likely to reject a collaboration than embrace it, so “random” alone isn’t a strategy.

Swipe through for the 3 lessons we’d take from these launches, then save it for your next partnership brainstorm.

Which collab do you think nailed the brief best?

3 collabs have made us do a double take 👀

Swipe to see what you can learn from these 3 iconic collabs

Use the collab to change how people see you. Borrow a new context, not just a new audience.

The most memorable collabs happen where you least expect it.

The product still needs to be relevant (and good!)

Let us know what you think of these brand collaborations!

Cinnabon is having a BIG moment in Australia 👀

First Woolworths. Then Golden Gaytime. Then Nutri-Grain.

Instead of opening more stores, Cinnabon is putting its flavour into products Aussies already know, buy and love.

From a marketing POV, it’s a smart play:
- partner with brands people already trust
- show up in places people already shop
- turn a familiar flavour into something new
- give people a reason to talk about it online

It’s less about asking people to visit Cinnabon, and more about bringing Cinnabon to them.

The big question: are we watching cinnamon become the next major food trend, or are people just loving the Cinnabon name?

Either way, we don’t think the collabs are done yet.

Calling it now: at least two more unexpected Cinnabon collabs before Christmas 👀
Where do you think they’ll show up next?
