Plastic poses a hazard to all aquatic species, from small fish to large animals and amphibians, in a variety of ways. According to reports, about one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed each year as a result of ingesting plastic. Unfortunately, as a result of this form of ocean pollution, some marine species are on the edge of extinction.

The presence of plastic in the sea is due to human carelessness. Since the global annual consumption of plastic has risen year after year, the amount of plastic waste that ends up in the seas has risen dramatically as well.

In addition to harming the marine ecosystem, plastic pollution has a significant influence on the economy, affecting industries such as tourism, fishing, and aquaculture, among others.

However, there are numerous efforts underway to reduce plastic pollution in the oceans, including beach and waterbody cleanups as well as preventing trash from entering the ocean in the first place. There are numerous organisations striving to safeguard the oceans. Many governments have restricted or prohibited various types of plastic products in order to combat plastic pollution, notably in the ocean. Numerous sewage treatment projects around the world, as well as growing awareness of the negative effects of plastic, may help us keep our oceans.
