The deal seekers may come quickly but it’s likely they’ll leave just as quickly when they find a better deal down the road.

Is it better to talk about the problems some people want to solve and the fact that you know how they can reach the goals they have been dreaming about meeting? Can we find people with clear, specific aims who appreciate the chance to train with a personal trainer who knows how to get results?

Clients who leave training after just a few sessions make all the time you spent, designing their personal program, feel like a waste – don’t they? It becomes difficult to form relationships with new clients (‘cos you’re always wondering if they are going to stay) even though you DO understand you need to know about their pain point and goals, for them to succeed. How many of your clients stay until they have completed the program you have designed with them?

Maybe, changing the way you look for clients would make a difference.

If you look for potential clients with a specific problem that you can help them solve and what you offer clearly serves their needs – surely, they’re more likely to stay until they have reached their goals! The first challenge that most fitness pros and business owners face is getting clients.

It might be easy in the beginning—if you are good at what you do; word spreads fast and your clientele will grow by word of mouth.

However, as your time becomes more valuable - due to the success your clients are having - it becomes more and more important to define and target your Ideal Client, so you can keep your business growing.

Ryan Ketchum advises that you take time to define your Ideal Client and then become the expert who knows exactly how to deliver results for them. Be the best at one thing, not mediocre at many things.

Marketing is about getting the right person’s attention at the right time. You don’t have to speak to everyone as long as your message clearly attracts the right person. In fact, your marketing message should probably be a bit unattractive to the people who aren’t a good fit for your business.
