Once upon a time, TDP's operating expenses were dramatically higher than our incoming revenue... and so she - in her "baby leader" days - thought the solution was "increased revenue".

Absolutely not.

What a financial year it's been for so many, eh?

We came in thinking: wOrLd DoMiNaTiOn [lol]... and the RBA was just like, "bro".

cue: interest rate hike, after hike, after hike... as well as a plethora of other "what in the FY?!" moments, and we see you.

All of you.
You look weary.

If TDP's [incredibly anxious] DM's from all of you are anything to go by... there's a *lot* of business owners out there fretting over this week's new budget announcement.

We're not economists.
Nor accountants.
Nor business coaches.

So we'll instead dial in tonight and ask you, "have you considered running a lock screen test on yourself lately?".

The world rewards busy right now.

Hustle-y.
Overbooked.
Always-on.
Completely fried, but pretending that’s "ambition".

And in seasons like that, we think it’s worth asking yourself one very simple question:

"Is the way I’m working negatively impacting what’s on my lock screen?"

Because for most of us, what’s on that screen is the real why.

Our kids.
Our partner.
Our pets.
Our family.
Our friends.
Our *actual life*.

And if the work you’re doing — and the hamster-on-the-wheel’ing you’re feeling while doing it — is constantly draining you of the energy, joy, patience, or presence required to show up for that? ... then we’d gently suggest something in your system is broken.

Not you.
The system.

Because yes, work matters.
Ambition matters.
Building something meaningful matters.

But not more than the people and lives waiting for us on the other side of the screen.

We say it often at TDP: we’re saving PDFs, not lives. And that perspective matters. Especially in industries like ours, where urgency loves to cosplay as importance.

So maybe this is your reminder to run the lock screen test on yourself. And if what’s on there is constantly copping the cost of how you work? ... it might be time to redesign the system.
