A couple of weeks ago Ingrid and I attended a fun and moving farewell to wonderful Australian author Frank Moorhouse (1938-2022). The State Library of NSW was perfect for it. I really enjoyed his work, but Ingrid loved it. I was lucky enough to work with Moorhouse’s former publisher Jane Palfreyman to design soft-cover editions of Grand Days and Forty-Seventeen. Jane (on stage) gave a lovely tribute.

There have been many great book designers, and some great designers who have designed fantastic book cover series, but my favourite ever book series where both covers and interiors are all excellent was designed by Swiss/USA modernist master Erik Nitsche (1908-1998). That book series ‘The New Illustrated Library of Science and Invention’ was created, researched, designed and published by him from 1963. Superb typography and image editing, and stylistically light.
