Most women don’t realise how much mental energy they’re spending trying to “manage” their wardrobe.

The overthinking.
The second-guessing.
The defaulting to safe outfits that no longer feel like them.

And over time, that starts affecting how visible and confident they feel professionally too.

Save this and follow for more style insights for female leaders.

I wrapped up last week with this fabulous cohort of women from Bank ABC in London.

As part of their Women’s Network, Empower, I was invited in to help build confidence and presence through personal style.

Not from a “what should women wear?” perspective, but from the deeper way that style can help you feel more confident, more visible, and more like yourself at work.

So while there is so much we covered during this 4-part programme, I wanted to share a few of the learnings that may be helpful for your own style journey too.

1. Other people’s perception of you becomes their reality. Whether it is accurate or not, people form impressions quickly, and a big part comes down to your appearance. But you can actively shape that impression through how you show up so it reflects your values, potential, ambition and the level you are ready to step into.

2. Colour is one of the fastest ways to shift your presence. Don't be afraid to use it as the powerful communication tool it is. Black may feel safe, but it's not always the most flattering, memorable or impactful choice, especially in corporate environments.

3. Personality is part of presence. If you want to be seen as credible, you don’t need to erase the parts of you that are creative, feminine or bold. The key is learning how to translate those qualities intentionally through colour, print, accessories, texture or detail.

4. Keeping clothes that no longer work has a cost. Every piece that no longer fits, flatters or reflects who you are now quietly adds friction to your morning. Letting go creates more than physical space - it creates the mental space to start dressing for the future you too.

A huge thank you to the wonderful women at Bank ABC London and the Empower Network for showing up so wholeheartedly.

Have you ever walked into a meeting and doubted that you 'look the part'?

A client I worked with had this feeling often.

She would put hours of work and planning into her presentations, only to show up and feel her confidence drop when she entered the room.

While confident in her expertise, there was a feeling that her style didn't match.

And in those crucial first few moments, when impressions are being formed, her value wasn't being made visible.

And her style wasn't reflecting how she wanted to be perceived.

Digging down a bit deeper, she shared she had a few 'safe' fallback outfits she always wore that made her feel 'fine'.

I asked her how she wanted to feel walking into those rooms.

Because that's the real question.

Not just what you wear.

But whether your style is reinforcing your confidence and aligned with how you want to show up.

Most people think memorability comes from confidence or communication.

It often begins much earlier than that.

In this video, I'm sharing 3 styling signals that subtly shape how people remember you.

Because when your presence is clear and intentional, you don't have to try to stand out.

You already do.

Most women focus on what they will say in important rooms.

But very few think about how they will be seen first.

And that’s where the 7-second rule comes in.

If you’ve never thought about how you are shaping perception, it might be time to look at it more intentionally.

P.S. In my upcoming workshop with Rebecca Allen, we’ll be breaking down what “executive presence” actually means, how you’re currently being perceived, and what to focus on next so that you are seen, respected and chosen for your next role.

You might be doing everything right and still not being seen at the level you’re ready for.

Because whether you realise it or not, your presence is always being interpreted.

And your style is part of that signal.

But here's where I see so many high-performing women get stuck:

When you’re not clear on what to wear, you default to what feels safe.

The same “it’s fine, it’s professional" choices.

They might be fine, but they're not doing anything to elevate your visibility or help decision-makers see you at the level you’re ready for.

If your presence isn’t clearly communicating your value, you risk being overlooked - not because you don't have the capability, but because you’re not being seen that way by the right people.

If being more visible this year matters to you, this is exactly what we’ll be focusing on in an upcoming live workshop I’m hosting with Rebecca Allen - Career Coach.

We’ll be covering the specific shifts that strengthen your executive presence, so you’re not just seen as capable, but as ready now for what’s next.

I’ll be turning 47 in a few months, and if I’m honest, the last few years have brought a lot of change.

My priorities feel different.
What I want to focus on has shifted.
And of course, my body is changing too.

Some days it’s subtle, but on other days, it’s more noticeable.

Clothes I used to wear without thinking don’t feel quite right anymore. Not wrong, just not as aligned with how I want to feel at this moment.

And I know I’m not alone in this.

For many women, this stage of life brings shifts in body shape, weight distribution, and hormones. It can feel like a moving target.

What helped me was realising that it’s not about going back to what used to work, but about understanding my body as it is now.

For me, understanding three key elements has made getting dressed so much easier:

1) Silhouette - the overall outline of your body
2) Proportions - how your body is balanced (longer legs, shorter torso, etc.)
3) Scale - your bone structure and physical presence

When you begin to see your body through this lens, you stop trying to “fix” it and start learning how to work with it.

Now, I focus on dressing in a way that feels both polished and comfortable, because those two things are not mutually exclusive.

In fact, for me, that’s the goal.

Because our bodies will continue to evolve, but how we respond to those changes can either create frustration or confidence.

And style gives us a way to support ourselves through that transition, rather than resist it.

Perimenopause and menopause bring changes that many women aren’t prepared for.

Clothes that once worked suddenly feel uncomfortable, restrictive, or simply “not right”.

In this video, I’m sharing three small styling adjustments that can make getting dressed feel easier and more supportive during this stage of life.

Style should evolve with your body, not fight against it.

Because how you feel in your clothes doesn’t just stay personal. It shows up in how you carry yourself, how you speak, and how you’re perceived in the rooms you walk into.

And for many women, this stage of life often coincides with stepping into more senior roles, where that presence matters even more.

P.S. For the first time, I’m bringing this work together with Rebecca Allen - Career Coach - combining leadership strategy and personal presence into one live session.

I headed off to one of my favourite cities last week…
(and this time, it wasn’t a 24-hour flight, just a quick two hours from Spain ✈️)

I began a 4-part Dressing with Purpose programme with Bank ABC London’s Women’s Empower Network where we focused on presence, perception, and career impact.

One of the key messages I shared was this:

When you understand how and why your presence is being interpreted,
you can start to make more intentional choices —
ones that support your confidence, your visibility, and your career progression.

Not by changing who you are,
but by allowing others to see you more clearly.

Because people don’t just respond to what you say,
they also respond to how you show up visually.

When your style is intentional, it helps others see you at your best, and just as importantly, helps you feel ready to perform at that level.

❤️

I also stumbled across Love Lane while I was there, and had to snap a pic.
