It’s been just over a year since Breathe Lab opened its doors in Echuca Moama.

But this story started long before that.

In January 2024, co-founder Nic (pictured left) was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer. She was 44-years-old, and deep in the everyday trenches of full-time work and parenting two busy teenage boys.

What followed was a blur of emergency surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy… and the biggest fight of her life.

Alongside her medical treatment, Nic explored integrative therapies, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy and red light therapy, which became a powerful part of her healing journey.

What began as a personal search for strength and support soon grew into something much more.

With the unwavering backing of the Echuca Moama community, and alongside her close friend Krystin, Breathe Lab was created to bring these therapies close to home.

Not just as a service. But as a space grounded in compassion, hope and accessibility.

In April 2025, Nic received the life-changing news that she was cancer-free.

Today, every session delivered inside these walls honours Nic’s story and her purpose: helping others breathe deeper, recover stronger and feel more like themselves again.

We’re delighted to welcome new client Breathe Lab into our portfolio of social media clients this month. 🌻

If you’re local to our beautiful riverside twin towns, you might already be familiar with this female-founded start-up which is putting science, recovery and wellbeing firmly on the EM map.

Co-founders Missy Murphy and Krystin Nagle launched Breathe Lab in late 2024, sparked by Missy’s deeply personal health journey following a cancer diagnosis. Through her recovery, Missy experienced first-hand the powerful benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, yet found access to this treatment in our region incredibly limited.

Instead of accepting that barrier, she and Krystin built the solution.
Breathe Lab is a place where advanced oxygen therapy, red light therapy and a genuine commitment to community wellbeing come together under one calm, carefully considered roof.

We’re absolutely thrilled to be collaborating with Breathe Lab throughout 2026, crafting a bespoke social media content package that brings their story, their science and their soul to life through beautiful storytelling. Our words will be brought to life through gorgeous images captured by the one and only - whose creative prowess continues to blow our minds.

Another insanely epic weekend of live Australian music and summer-lovin’ fun under the gum trees at EM.

We even managed to get nearly our whole ‘band’ together for a team shot this year! Just missing our senior editor Kendra who we’re all sending love to in Canada. 💕

At The Splendid Word, this is where the magic really happens……

Not on a laptop, but around the table.

A table full of shared loves, stories, ideas, half-formed thoughts, messy notes, cups of tea (or champagne😘) and conversations that more often than not go somewhere unexpected.

Most of our days are spent writing quietly from our desks, but the work itself is fuelled by moments like this – connection, creativity, curiosity and the joy of shaping and sharing words that make you truly ‘feel’ something.

If you ever wondered how good copy is made, it starts well before the first sentence reaches the page. It starts with talking, imagining, scribbling, laughing, pondering, questioning, listening.

Here’s to the tables (literal and metaphorical) where creative minds gather and big ideas take flight.

Today we’re celebrating one of the brightest, most effervescent humans to have ever graced the earth – our dear Corinda on her 40th birthday. 🎈

Corinda brings so much heart, joy and grounded wisdom to our team and to every client she works with. She has that special magic of being able to lift a room simply by walking into it… and to elevate a piece of writing simply by touching it.

Beyond her brilliance on the page, Corinda is a senior English, Literature and Philosophy teacher, a voracious reader, a lover of words, an adventurer and an all-round outdoors goer. She’s curious, thoughtful, fiercely intelligent and endlessly generous with her talents.

Corinda, thank you for the light you bring to our work, our stories, our people and our days. We feel incredibly lucky to have you in our team.

📚It’s been a little while since we’ve popped up in your feed folks, but don’t mistake our lengthy siesta from social land as a holiday in the real world. We’ve been working hard for our clients gang - we just haven’t been telling you about it here!

When our books reached capacity two years ago, after we had scaled our team to a size that felt comfortable, we took a deliberate pause from social posting. Both for self-preservation, and as a little experiment to see if the world would keep turning.

And you know what? It did. Our books remained full, we kept doing what we do best (*wink copywriting, editing, storytelling), and we gave our strung-out nervous systems a much-needed rest from the dopamine-feulled world of social media.

But you know what? We’ve missed you guys, we’ve missed this friendly little corner of the internet, and we’ve missed sharing our with you all.

And if ever there was a time in this world for more thoughtful, human-led storytelling and kind, purposeful communication, now is it. 🌸

So we’re dipping our toe back in. Slowly, gently and intentionally.

We’re launching a very special campaign today in conjunction with the Rochester Business Network, Campaspe Shire Council and Victorian Government to help Rochester’s business community get back on its feet following the devastating October flood event.

If you live in a neighbouring town to Rochester, this campaign is speaking to you.

Remember the Empty Esky movement that got legs after the 2019 bushfires?

Well this is our homegrown version of that.

Please follow the RBN’s social media pages and plan a visit (or 10) to Rochester to support this important recovery campaign.

As part of our ‘Love Rochy’ promotional strategy, we’re kicking off a 6 month social media campaign today to help Rochester’s business community get back on its feet following the devastating 2022 flood event.
The campaign will shine a spotlight on our extraordinary business community, and our town’s recovery journey, encouraging people from neighbouring towns to plan a visit and support our local businesses.
‘Love Rochy Shop Local’ will feature powerful storytelling, imagery and videos by Echuca Moama content creators The Splendid Word, and hopes to spark a movement of people willing to lend a hand to their fellow neighbours and help stimulate our flood-affected economy.
While the majority of our small businesses have now re-opened, many of our townsfolk have still not been able to return to their homes, meaning our local customer base has taken a big hit.
That’s why we’re appealing to the generous spirit and mateship of our surrounding neighbours at Echuca, Bendigo, Shepparton and Kyabram to help us out in our hour of need.
In many ways, this is our home-grown version of the ‘Empty Esky’ movement, which supported small businesses affected by the 2019 bushfires.
If you live in any of our neighbouring townships (or even further afield), we’re asking you to take a short trip down the road, to purchase one of our Love Rochy reusable tote bags from a business in the CBD, and to fill it to the brim with local produce, goods, gifts and treats.
It’s a simple, effective, immediate way for you to inject money into our community, and to help us overcome the significant challenges we continue to face as a result of our second major flood event in just over a decade.
Please know that your foot-traffic and purchases, no matter the size or amount, go such a long way towards assisting our recovery.
You can help us spread the word by commenting on our posts, sharing our stories to your own social media accounts, and tagging as many of your mates in neighbouring towns as possible.
