Keeping the Craft of Signwriting Alive

Keeping the Craft of Signwriting Alive We aim to pass on the Craft to those willing to dedicate themselves to the learning & practice of this amazing diverse art.

Though our friend Winton Francis passed away, I seek feedback on whether people out there in Victoria, and the broader Australian Sign Writing Community, would like to revisit a Workshop, "To Keep the Craft of Sign Writing Alive"? We are bringing together some of the best Craftsmen & skilled people in the Craft, both nationally & Internationally recognised , to pass on skills & knowledge gathered

over a lifetime of experience. A hands on workshop experience, learning and improvising your skills from basic lettering & brush skills layout, pinstriping, scrollwork,to advance levels in gold leaf on glass.

I spoke to Winton frequently, travelled to do various projects with him, posting briefly his comments.

KTCOSA (Keeping the Craft of Signwriting Alive) was his effort to keep the Craft, an in demand craft, current with training for those who wish to gain or improve skills.

Previously several 2-3 day Workshops were run by retired or currently working Signwriters, make a comment if you personally would consider joining such Workshops if we run them again. Winton thought workshops critical as no Trade Schools remain. Perhaps 3, maybe 4 workshops a year?

This week our friend, mentor, workmate passed leaving memories and a legacy.

Today there is a skilled group of people, some who have been blessed to be taught by Winton or are equally skilled Signwriters from around our beautiful planet, who will remember Winton’s dream. The dream is simply to have passion and support, to keep the craft of signwriting alive. I give my respect to Winton as a loyal friend, express my condolences to his colleagues, students, friends and family on his passing and remember his great achievements and his dream, which has manifested and will endure.

VALE Winton Geoffrey Francis, you have lived a full and interesting life, I shall always be grateful to have shared time and walked with you in our adventures.
