One for you # and
I think my mum got these for me at the Camberwell trash and treasure many years ago, the saws have set and have been sharp although a bit dull now and the little boxwood rule is kinda cute.

Looked for a sharp pair of as I am doing a chair resto, blunt, blunt, blunt so I then went looking for all the scissors I had in the shed, all razor sharp and adjusted for fall. The are ok sharp but still a work in progress.

I went down to Melbourne yesterday to to pick up a matched pair of hand made by both Mike from vintage tool shop and Jim from together they are .
The saws are "Richmond" model, both 14 inch, the rip is 12 tpi and the xcut is 11 teeth per inch both with matched Myrtle handles and the awesome bit is Mike put lambs tongues on for me.
Beautiful saws and a credit to both as you can see in the video they cut superbly!
Once again thanks to you both.
Michael

This Jewelery box was made by my Grand Father Ernie Smith whilst away during WW2, it was made for my Grand Mother Honey.
Ernie wasn't a soldier (he was a carpenter) although he was essentially a conscript. He, like most tradesmen that didn't join the services had to register with "Man Power" a Government agency that allotted workers to wherever they were needed for the war effort.

Ernie ended up being sent to the Atherton Tablelands to build a hospital for the expected US servicemen casualties of I think the amphibious landings at Guadal Canal.

Due to shortages of timber and all things building Ernie had to commandeer whatever they needed from local businesses.
He told me they were using the most beautiful furniture timbers that had been drying for years in readiness to be sold on the premium timber market using them for scantling and verandah posts etc but it had to be done as there were no alternatives available.

The real sad bit about the whole story was when the Yanks turned up they said the hospital was not good enough for their boys, they bulldozed all the hospital buildings into heaps and burnt them!
Then moving in quonset huts to re build.
Pop said it was heartbreaking seeing the timber go up in smoke.

Anyway back to the box, Pop made the big one for Nan and a smaller one for each of the girls, I still have my mums as well as this one.
Watch is just for scale.

What a great night! After 3 years of fundraising Tpot et al
had raised enough money to purchase, install and maintain a magnificent Yamaha C6 Grand Piano!
Last night was the inaugural recital by renowned Pianist Timoth Young, a sold out event whith about 200 in attendance and what a performance!

Opera is on this afternoon (Sunday) at 2.30!

Congrats all involved (not me)

Originally hailing from Newborough, Timothy Young is a much sought-after recitalist, soloist and chamber musician, performing regularly in Australia's major festivals.
