V&V Walsh recently launched a new Producer Engagement Program to give sheep farmers greater insight into the quality of their lambs and the initial feedback has been positive with several producers already registering their interest.
Designed specifically for Western Australian sheep producers, the new V&V Walsh Producer Engagement Program is a four-year initiative delivered in partnership with Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA).
The program will help participants better understand the relationship between on-farm management decisions and carcase performance. Through access to objective measurement technology and detailed processing feedback, producers will gain practical insights to help improve flock productivity and profitability.
V&V Walsh Livestock Relationship Manager Hannah Matthews said the program was designed to help producers capture more value from the livestock they work hard to produce.
"We're investing in technology that allows us to measure quality more accurately than ever before. This program is about sharing that information with producers and helping them use it to drive better business decisions and outcomes," she said.
For those attending the upcoming Dowerin Machinery Field Dayss event, Hannah will be available to talk about the program in the Craig Mostyn Group tent at Site 45, August 26-27.

V&V Walsh has launched a new Producer Engagement Program designed to give sheep farmers greater insight into the quality of their lambs. By sharing detailed performance data, the program can help guide on-farm management decisions to improve productivity, profitability and market returns.
That's the opportunity being offered through the new V&V Walsh Producer Engagement Program, a four-year initiative delivered in partnership with Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA).
Designed specifically for WA sheep producers, the program will help participants better understand the relationship between on-farm management decisions and carcase performance.
Participating producers will receive access to a dedicated feedback portal providing individual animal data, including carcase weight, lean meat yield (LMY%), intramuscular fat (IMF%), MSA Index scores and performance trends over time. This information can help producers make more informed decisions around genetics, nutrition, stocking rates and feed efficiency.
The program will be delivered through six producer learning groups across the State.

Thanks to Bob Garnant at the Countryman for the article on the new program.

Producers could soon be rewarded with price premiums for eating quality traits, with a WA processor set to launch the State’s first MSA-modelled sheepmeat supply program.

Our Bunbury-based V&V Walsh business has adopted Artificial Intelligence to provide better accuracy for producers and processors when counting sheep.
Discrepancies in sheep counts have long been a source of frustration between farmers, truck drivers, stock agents and processors, making accurate head counts valuable to all parties.
V&V Walsh teamed up with Brisbane-based AI Vision specialist, BlueSync, to install and operate AI-linked cameras which accurately identify and record each animal as they come off the truck.
While maintaining a manual count, along with the AI camera count and numbers going across the scales, V&V now have three different data points to cross reference.
With some lambs commanding more than $300 per head, the costs of miscounts can run into the thousands of dollars for either buyer or seller.
V&V Walsh General Manager Brent Dancer said this technology was revolutionising the sheep delivery process.
“It’s just another example of using technology to iron out problem areas so the farmer can get on with the job of growing their sheep and lambs and we can focus on processing them efficiently and obtaining the highest value for the carcase or cuts,” he said.
Installing this new AI technology alongside upgrades at the plant as part of the mandatory eID rollout, was done with support from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and Australian Meat Processor Corporation.

We are excited to launch two new additions to the Linley Valley Free Range Pork range available in over 40 stores across Perth and in Bunbury Farmers Markets: Korean BBQ Pork Ribs with a Gochujang-Style Glaze and Pork Scotch Fillet with Honey, Sriracha & Lime Glaze.
Bold global fusion flavours were the inspiration behind the development of these two new products, satisfying customer preferences for elevated convenience and a new consumer trend called SWICY, combining sweet and spicy.
Our Scotch Fillet Steaks beautifully merges the sweetness of honey balanced with the tang of lime, and the added spice from siracha, while our ready-to-cook Free Range Pork ribs embraces Gochujang, a traditional Korean fermented chilli paste, both offering bold yet easy weeknight meals.
These products can be found at The Good Grocer, select Tucker Fresh, select IGA’s around Perth, Marmion St Fresh & Gourmet, The Grocer & The Chef, Forrest Rd Fresh, Bunbury Farmers Market and more.
