What a weekend at Shadows! 🍭💜
We’ve had locals and visitors dropping in, lolly bags being filled, photo printing and canvas orders coming through, and people enjoying a browse around the gallery.
Some more of our creators’ items went to new homes, too, including the solid hardwood, hand-painted stool!
One of the lovely parts has been chatting with everyone and hearing the childhood memories our old-school lollies bring back.
I’ve been so surprised by the support and the positive comments about the gallery. Thank you to everyone who visited, placed an order or bought something from our creators over the weekend. 💜

Jenny makes beautiful baby blankets, cardigans, booties and beanies, along with smaller pieces lovingly knitted especially for premature babies.

Loraine creates her artwork using pastel pencils and pan pastels on Pastelmat board, capturing the lovely details and character of each animal. This colourful macaw is one of her pieces on display.

What a wonderful start! 🍭💜
When we opened the doors to our Community Art, History & Creative Gallery, I really didn’t know what to expect. It has been so lovely seeing people coming in, having a look around and enjoying what we have created.
With the school holidays here, it has been so much fun watching the kids choose their old-school lollies. As we fill their bags, we’ve been getting them to count along and add up each 5-cent lolly as it goes in. Seeing how surprised and excited they are when they realise just how many lollies they can get has been wonderful to see. 🍬
Then off they go on their bikes, proudly showing each other — “Look at my bag!”
It’s exactly the old-school lolly experience we hoped to bring back.
We’ve also had locals and tourists dropping in, and it has been lovely hearing how much they’ve enjoyed looking around. The positive feedback we’ve received about what we’ve created here has meant so much to us.
Loraine Backman’s beautiful animal portraits have been getting plenty of attention, our handmade knitted cardigans, booties, beanies and blankets have been catching people’s eye, and the Sherwood jams, chutneys and relishes have been a real hit too.
And that’s only a little of what you’ll find here — there is so much more to explore and discover. 💜
Thank you to everyone who has called in, supported our creators, made a purchase or simply stopped for a look and a chat. Thank you for making our first few days so special.
We really couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful start. 💜

We’re open today! 🌿

We had a wonderful response to our gallery opening yesterday. It was lovely to see the smiles on our creators’ faces as some of their pieces headed off to new homes. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported our new gallery!

I also loved seeing people explore our old-school lolly range. We shared so many memories of the lollies we used to eat as kids.

After months of planning and preparing, tomorrow we officially open Shadows Affordable Memories – Community Art, History & Creative Gallery.

And we’ve got a fun morning planned!

We’ve also had some wonderful help from Honi and the Glenreagh Museum with something very special that we finally get to share with you tomorrow. 🤫
