From my experience working with clients in both my agency and Masala Collective, I've observed a common issue they face concerning how they frame their marketing messages. Often, business owners forget that their customers or clients may not be experts in their particular field, which is why they sought their services in the first place. Unfortunately, this oversight leads them to use scientific terms or technical jargon in their marketing that their customers may have no understanding of whatsoever. Consequently, this can lead to frustration and even drive away potential clients. So, how can you master your marketing language? Here are some practical tips to consider:

I’ve attended quite a number of networking events for female business owners over the years and one thing that has always disturbed me is the lack of representation in most of these events. As a woman entrepreneur of colour, I want to see more women like myself in these events, more inclusion and diversity. Last night, I had the opportunity to attend networking session. I loved it! It was like a feeling of coming home. Deep thoughts were shared, there was mutual respect and love for each woman’s business. I can tell these wonderful women have created a village for us to lean on. Looking forward to attending more sessions and seeing this community blossom. 💕

In a recent interview, I shared three valuable tips for aspiring business women. These tips are based on my own entrepreneurial experience. Discovering my true calling helped me transform Masala Collective into a Mindful Marketing academy for women entrepreneurs. I'm a teacher at heart, and the positive feedback I get from students, colleagues, and clients inspired me to create marketing workshops for women entrepreneurs. In addition, seeing my husband run a solo business taught us how important it is to set up strong systems. It's been an effective way to handle business operations and scale up.

I strongly believe in the power of mindset, as it shapes our progress in life. This realization dawned on me during the final year of my PhD. After receiving feedback from examiners requesting a re-submission due to their dissatisfaction with my discussion chapter, I knew I would be scrutinized. My supervisor and husband were worried I would take it badly but to their surprise, I took the feedback as constructive criticism and applied for a 6-month extension to re-submit my thesis, which resulted in the delay of my graduation. However, I persevered diligently, and when I re-submitted, the examiners were astonished by the flawless revisions in the previously criticized chapter. I attribute this success to a shift in my mindset.

Similarly, in our entrepreneurial pursuits, our mindset plays a crucial role. We need to introspect and examine our mindset towards our business, as it determines our progress in the entrepreneurial journey. Recently, I came across an intriguing journal article (reference below) that explored the mindsets of three entrepreneurs, and I was particularly fascinated by two consistent mindsets they demonstrated - purpose-oriented and learning-oriented. I am excited to share the definitions of these mindsets in this post, as I find them inspiring and hope they will be helpful to you as well.

We conducted our first Mindful Website Design workshop in Singapore 🇸🇬. It was a great experience. The ladies who came were very inspiring and it was a real joy to see their websites come together nicely. We’ll be conducting more workshops like this in the coming months. Stay tuned. 😀
