In the search for a new job at the start of the year I updated and added work to my portfolio. Amongst the new editions is a font called Daejon.
I had a few letters to start with from a former job so with the starting point set I fleshed out an upper case alphabet and numbers with an accompanying italic set.
I was originally was going to call it Bullet Train. I envisioned it incorporated into transport, sports, motorsports or anything associated with speed and movement.
Researching bullet trains I came across Korail. Korail is a South Korean commuter company and operator of the Sancheon bullet train based in the city of Daejeon.
Exploring the possibilities for a name also opened up a lot of options for visuals to build this project around. The orchard flower is the icon for the city so adding that was a given. Along with images of the route map and the Sancheon bullet train itself.
The font itself is slender and sleek which allows it to be used in tight spaces in display and information situations. It naturally fits into vibrant and dynamic environments.
In all the project was a very linear and enjoyable process. Coming to the conclusion of the name with a bunch imagery to accompany the font was very satisfying.
Glad to finally share it with everyone and I look forward to creating the next project formed around a custom font and seeing where I end up π
