๐Ÿด๐Ÿ“– A Little Something Different...

We had a follower reach out and share this fantastic story, told through the eyes of a seasoned polocrosse pony. From float trips and carnival weekends to teammates, riders and that one mare every horse seems to know about ๐Ÿ˜‚, it's a humorous look at our sport from the horse's perspective.

A huge thank you to Julie Morris for sharing this absolute ripper of a read with us. We reckon plenty of riders will recognise their own horse's personality somewhere in this story!

Grab a cuppa, have a laugh and enjoy "Through My Eyes" ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ‘‡

Yep, it must be that time again. She's been running around all morning loading this and dropping that. How much does one need for a weekend of Polocrosse. Hope she remembers to load me because Iโ€™m the real star here and Iโ€™m excited...

At long last were on the road. Oops just had to relieve myself. Going to have to stand in it now for the next few hours. She's not going to be happy because she has to sleep in here. Canโ€™t help nature...

A pretty good trip but just get me off. Iโ€™m dying for a p*e and I canโ€™t stand it splashing up my legs.

Yep, I remember this place. Nice green pickings down here with good yards. Oh No..... Thereโ€™s that grey bitch of mare I had to stand next to all weekend the last time I was here. I mean. Why did she continually lift her tail for me only to spin around and lunge at me with open mouth and wild eyes. I think Iโ€™ll just cosy up to my mate Brownie. Not many brains but a lot safer.

So glad we are away from that club house. At least Iโ€™ll get a good nightโ€™s kip and no distractions from The Grey Bitch .. Ha Ha some chestnut thought he was on to a good thing. Looser. He has the teeth marks to prove it.

Looks like a good day for it. I've been fed. Thanks Mum. Had my tail brushed, braided and sewn. Legs bandaged. Sooo lets get on with it. Iโ€™m so looking forward to our first game.

Would you believe it. ... Iโ€™m lined up behind the Grey Bitch. Come on Umpy. Throw the damn ball in. Iโ€™m nose to tail here and Iโ€™m nervous......Jeez..What kind of throw do you call that...Hang on luv ... Iโ€™m the quickest out the back. Ill set you up. If she misses this, Iโ€™m gonna trade the old chook in for a younger model... Phew she picked it up. Yep Yep I know which way Iโ€™m going. Just hold on and donโ€™t drop the ball. There's my ole mate Brownie waiting for me in the area. Make sure itโ€™s a good pass. SWEET. First blood to us.

Well, I have to admit I played bloody well. In fact, the whole team did. I even got a wink from The Grey Bitch....Maybe Iโ€™ll get lucky tonight after all. On seconds thoughts Iโ€™ll get Brownie to test the water first. Iโ€™m very attached to my teeth. I've had them a long time.

Oh jeez. I know whatโ€™s coming next. She gonna sq**rt that cold, wet stuff everywhere. I swear Im gonna stand on that wet monster if she gets it in my eyes. And get this saddle of quick. Iโ€™m hot. Iโ€™m sweaty and Iโ€™m gonna roll, With or without the saddle thatโ€™s worth more than me. Yep Iโ€™ve heard you say that on more than one occasion.

Now I think itโ€™s almost time for the mid-day entertainment. Bring on The Little People... Yep, here they come... Oui Brownie. Check out these dudes. Hey Stumpy...You call them legs. What? Your names Sparkle. Mate you wanna keep that to yourself.

Look I've been around a while. Done a bit of everything. You know circles. Looking pretty. A bit of jumping. But man, this beats itโ€™s all. I've been playing this game for a long time now and I love it. Catching up with old mates most weekends. A bit of rough and tumble. Scaring the crap out of the new guys and I think I've still got a good few years left in me yet. I reckon me and The Old Chook will play out our twilight years together. I look after her and she makes sure Iโ€™m fed watered and rugged. I do have to put up with her ramblings about life though. You know the ones that got away and all that girlie crap. But itโ€™s worth it. There's a saying that springs to mind.

One of the great things about polocrosse is the variety of people it brings together, and few stories are as unique as that of Jairaj Rajaram from the Moorooduc Polocrosse Club in Victoria.

Originally from India, Jairaj's horse journey began at just seven years of age. His early riding education came from officers of the Indian Army's prestigious 61st Cavalry Regiment and the historic Madras Riding Club, one of the oldest riding clubs dating back to British rule in India.

His equestrian background is incredibly diverse, with success in gymkhana events, showjumping, dressage, tent pe***ng and polo. He even rode endurance horses for the Sultan of Oman in the Royal Stables before later moving to New Zealand and eventually Australia.

Away from competition, Jairaj followed his passion for horses into a career as an equine dentist, becoming double qualified across Australia and New Zealand, ranking 8th nationally and among the top five in Victoria.

Jairaj first discovered polocrosse in 2010 when he met Michael Semmens at Equitana Melbourne.

"I was given a horse called Bella to play. Coming from polo, I thought it would be very similar. I tried to score my first goal, not realising I had to pass it to Number 1 first!"

Like many players, one game was all it took.

What kept him coming back was the skill level, game awareness, affordability and camaraderie.

"It's the king of one-horse sports. You can travel with one horse, play multiple games across the weekend and make lifelong friends."

Being one of the few players of Indian heritage regularly competing in Australian polocrosse has certainly made Jairaj stand out.

"I always stand out like a buckskin in a game," he laughs.

But he believes the sport's greatest strength is its ability to bring people together from all walks of life.

"The polocrosse community is like an extended family. Everyone is willing to help, coach and encourage you to improve."

Jairaj is passionate about introducing new people to polocrosse and believes the sport has enormous appeal for riders from all backgrounds.

As a Level 1 Pony Club, RDA and Polocrosse coach, he regularly works with riders at pony clubs and Riding for the Disabled centres, encouraging them to give the sport a try.

His dream?

"One day I'd love to take polocrosse to India."

He has already seen riders from various cultural backgrounds become involved through Moorooduc, including visitors from Mongolia and Italy who have taken their experiences home with them.

When asked how he would describe the sport to someone who has never seen it before, Jairaj has a simple answer:

"It's a cross between lacrosse, netball, polo and rugby. The king of one-horse sports."

He also loves the unique family atmosphere that exists within the game.

"I've seen three generations of families playing together. There aren't many sports that can offer that."

Moorooduc Polocrosse Club has played a significant role in Jairaj's journey.

After spending time with other clubs, he eventually returned to help strengthen Moorooduc when player numbers were low.

"Moorooduc is a fantastic club and very welcoming. Helping build the club back up was important to me."

Having only started playing polocrosse at 38 years of age, Jairaj has no plans to slow down.

His goals are simple:

โœ… Keep playing as long as possible
โœ… Continue improving his game
โœ… Travel and meet new people through the sport
โœ… Play hard, play fair and play safe

And after making finals at nearly every tournament during his first two years in the sport, it's safe to say he's made quite an impact already.

From the cavalry grounds of India to polocrosse fields across Australia, Jairaj's story is a reminder that our sport can bring together people from all backgrounds, cultures and experiences.

๐ŸŒŸThanks for sharing your story Jairaj, and for being a great ambassador for both Moorooduc Polocrosse Club and the wider polocrosse community.

It wouldnโ€™t fit in the Monday muster but what a weekend the team at Beauwood Park Equestrian Supplies and follower Tori Elder had with the postponement of the Tara carnival.

Make sure you share your weekend pics in the post. And if they donโ€™t fit please send them in to us. We love seeing what everyone in the polox community got up too ๐Ÿ’™
