WOC are reclaiming IWD and our leadership space. And today, we kicked that off with an incredible event with Vu Consulting as part of the 'More Voices, More Representation' campaign.

As we gathered these incredible women of colour together, it was a perfect example of why these intersectional discussions need to happen. One minoritised group cannot rise if we leave another behind - women, people of colour, First Nations people, people with disability, the LGBTQIA+ community. And when we work together, great change can happen for all of us.

It was an honour to be able to MC this event and launch the report from Vu Consulting that looks at woc's experiences in IWD and beyond. I want to thank Mylan Vu and her incredible team for putting this together. A huge shoutout to the incredible women who spoke Rowena Welsh - Jarrett, Brenda Gaddi, Niti Nadarajah, Prabha Nandagopal, Nareen Young, Neha M. and Lisa Sarago.

So what can you do?
- Download the More Voices, More Representation report
- Join Women of Colour Australia's 'Share A Song, Share A Story' event on 28 Feb to honour International Women of Colour Day
- Visit the campaign site to see a host of other events and ways to support
- Challenge yourself to be actively anti-racist and broaden your understanding of DEI

It was an honour to be a Finalist in the Asian Australian leadership awards for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. But it was even more special to be able to share this night with my mum. ⚡️

Being a first generation Asian Aussie, the life of entrepreneurship had never been clear in front of me. But seeing my dad run a successful business for over 35 years had inadvertently influenced where I've ended up. I'm where I am because of both my parent's strengths migrating to Australia and how they raised me.

It's made me really reflect on my own journey of racial identity. Growing up in the 90s, I definitely didn't feel welcome in this country. Politicians were telling us to 'go back to where we came from.' But now, we get to celebrate a politician like Penny Wong (and even get to introduce her to my mum!)

But there is still a long way to go for the equity and inclusion of Asian Australians. I want us to not only be recognised but have our voices heard. I want to fight for the next generation to not face the discrimination I have faced - just like my parents fought for me.

Congratulations to who won in our category and all the honourees on the night. Asian excellence is here to stay.

I am humbled to be a finalist for the .

It's had me reflecting on my personal journey with embracing my cultural identity and in particular, the opportunities I've been afforded due to my parents' hard work and tenacity.

The unique third culture Asian Aussies live in is still misunderstood by others and even ourselves. I've found greater solace and community by sharing my own misgivings about it. I'm excited that an awards night like this recognises people like me and celebrates the fact that, despite it all, we break down bamboo ceilings and become the people that I hope I'd had to look up to as I was growing up.

Thank you to .au for the recognition!

We wouldn't exist without our community.

Fighting for change can feel like a solitary pursuit against structures that are dedicated towards keeping power in the same place it's been for years.

We could not advocate for change in advertising that prioritises inclusion, sustainability and positivity without fellow changemakers in our corner.

It was so great to see so many of them in person yesterday. put on a great event to network with fellow good business leaders. We watched a transformative film about how we run nonprofits and social enterprises called Uncharitable (and I implore you all to watch it)
crew who continue to support us through this journey were out in full force
And we congregated at our new client's space, .storytellers, to promote their commitment to impact storytelling.

Collaborating for change is how we make ethical storytelling the norm in our industry. Be a part of the change.

The Social Story is my life's passion, the fulfilment of a personal mission I wrote down seven years ago just after I quit my corporate advertising job to "empower people to tell their stories."

With the help of my team, the digital nomad friends I met on my travels and the social enterprise community, I am so proud to see what this business has become. We have infused better decision making and impact into everything we do. And dare I say, we've made great change to our community and our industry.

This recognition from has given me the fuel to keep writing our next chapter.
We want to develop ethical social storytelling standards that can be used by all businesses and individuals alike.
I want to see a social landscape that does prioritise empathy, kindness and positive impact.
And I want to see an industry that accepts its responsibility in making that happen.

Thank you to the people who've helped me get this far. Now who else will join us in the next chapter?

Our clients, .ASGA reached their ambitious target of recycling 1 million pairs of shoes.

Over the past few years, we've worked with them to tell the story of the work they do with their retail partners to make it easier for people to recycle better and contribute to a more circular economy.

Social storytelling is all about creative content and delivering value back to the audience. ⭐️ Yes, we'll film cool content showing service
But we'll go a step further
⭐️ We'll educate the audience about recycling tips
⭐️ We'll inspire them to integrate sustainability into sports
⭐️ We'll show them other ways to tread lightly in their life

This fuels your content ideas, gives your audience a reason to believe your why and build long-term relationships with your audience. To see how social storytelling can work for you, get in touch with our team over on our website!

One of the things that stuck with me throughout was that every leader still finds it difficult to to run a business.

From Chance the Rapper, to the EP of Drive to Survive to the founders of social enterprises I admired (like ) and the other social impact founders I met up with during the event, we are always looking to learn and relieve the pressures of running a business.

But there is an added pressure when you want to create a business for impact. We're looking to reinvent ways capitalism runs our economy. We're looking for innovative ways to be profitable while putting our impact first. We are trying to compete in an ever-competitive market while cost of living is higher.

So how do we move forward?
⭐️ We need to make all consumers believe in compassion and the purpose of our businesses
⭐️ We need to work together to increase the consideration of social enterprises for our essential items
⭐️ We need to understand our responsibility in where our money goes as both consumers and business owners
⭐️ We go to events like 's meetup on Thursday on "Resilience" as small business owners to find comfort and inspiration around others who are facing the same problems.

Yes, this has become a slightly-shrouded promotion for the SECNA event we'll be at where we get to talk about all these problems and the solutions that take us forward.

Head to to find out more about the event and we'll see you there.

Remember how they always tell you to never read the comments on social? But did you know that this is our actual job as a community manager?

Social media platforms have increasingly capability to hide clear signs of hate speech but it also falls on real people having to read through the typos or nuanced language to keep the comments a legal place.

Vilification, misinformation and personal attacks need to be read, reported and deleted by people like me.
Angry customer complaints need to be responded to by people like me.
Reading heated debate to see if its racist enough to hide for the mental health of others and to also inform future content is done by people like me.

And yet, most community managers do not have any training as social workers, no debriefs or support as they face the worst of the internet, every single day.

So, on behalf of all of us:
⭐️ think before you type
⭐ you can also report spam and hate speech
⭐️ remember it's a person on the other side of it
⭐️ give them some space and love right now. It's been a heavy month for Australian public debate, on top of everything else happening in the world. We're not doing alright.
⭐️ lead with kindness

Do you know how rare it is to find yourself in a room full of people who understand the cultural load you have to take into every other room you enter? In my almost 30 years of life, it has never happened - until this weekend when I got to join Multicultural Leadership Initiative at their Strategy Retreat.

Climate and community leaders of colour gathered from around Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and more came together on Gadigal Land to share their stories, heal together, co-create change in the climate movement and connect. When you didn't have to fight for your space to be there or feel others, we were just able to be vulnerable and productive in the fight for positive impact, together.

This insight from Pok particularly resonated with me. It encompasses so much of what my journey has been this year in embracing my Chinese heritage and turning it into my superpower. I can't wait to see what the coalition of these changemakers will achieve!
