The Cause Effect

The Cause Effect We're a business consultancy that specialises in Purpose Strategies.

We help business leaders define and embed meaningful purpose into their organisations so that they drive profit through purpose and scale the impact they have in the world.

This week’s guest on the For Love & Money Podcast is an environmental engineer.

Tim Stubbs is Director of WolfPeak, a strategy and environment consultancy that was set up to build a profitable business doing work they believe in – to do good.

The theme of this episode is “Starting Point.” Tim challenges the traditional approach of prioritising business and economic growth, which often forces environmental and human considerations to fit around these priorities. Instead, he invites us to consider an alternate perspective: understanding the constraints of human beings and the environment as the natural starting points and then asking how business can fit into that. How would our behaviours and actions change if these were our starting points?

This month is
In case you don’t know what this means, B Corps are businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. We envision a better economic system where businesses can benefit people, communities, and the planet. We choose long-term investments over quick wins, and measure our success based on the positive impact we create.

Yes ‘we’. I'm proud to count The Cause Effect amongst this community of businesses who walk the talk on business as a force for good. In Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, there are over 680 B Corps, employing more than 44,000 workers, with $19 billion in annual revenue. Some of the bigger names you might recognise include Intrepid, Bank Australia, Kathmandu, Who Gives A Crap, T2, Patagonia and Blooms The Chemist Management Services.

To celebrate B Corp month, I wanted to highlight our guests on the For Love & Money Podcast whose businesses are .

Do you love your bank? (Sorry if you just choked on your coffee, no offence banks)!

This may seem like a strange question but perhaps if your bank is Bank Australia , you might not have to imagine too hard. Based on my latest interview on the For Love & Money podcast, this is one bank I can easily imagine loving. And also switching my banking to!

Georgia Windrum was my guest for our latest episode, entitled “Helping Australians build the future we all deserve”. Georgia is Manager Climate Action Strategy, Bank Australia. She leads their work to reach their ambitious net zero by 2035 target.

Our conversation uncovers the unusual way that this bank conducts its business, from being customer-owned, to not paying out bonuses or dividends and to serving their purpose – to inspire and empower their customers to use their money to create a world where people and the planet thrive.

In this clip, Georgia shares one Bank Australia initiative that she’s particularly passionate about. She highlights their pilot home electrification program in Victoria, which is all about getting their customers off gas. This is just one of many of their initiatives that might surprise you coming from a bank.

I first came across Neal Foard about a year ago. He shared an amazing story on video. I’ve been hooked ever since.

Neal is an incredible storyteller. He shares beautiful, heart-warming stories – always with a powerful and positive takeaway. In an age where many of our political leaders and media personalities encourage us to think the worst of each other and to focus on the rage, Neal highlights the best of us. Through his stories, he inspires the best of us.

I am thoroughly excited to share the latest episode of the For Love & Money podcast featuring Neal Foard, founder of Storyfire, on the power of stories to inspire the best of us. The message within this interview applies just as much to individuals as it does to organisations and brands. Hope you enjoy it.

My latest guest on the is Sasha Titchkosky, co-founder and CEO of Australia’s leading sustainability practitioner in the furniture and design industry – Koskela.
