What does it take to build a regional tourism organisation from the ground up? 🌍

Back in 2018, The Tweed Tourism Co. didn't exist. Tweed Shire Council trusted us to create something new for the region, bringing destination marketing, industry development and visitor servicing under one roof.

It took a small team with big plans, hundreds of tourism businesses and partners willing to back an idea before any track record, and volunteers who became the friendly face of The Tweed.

What followed were innovative marketing campaigns, new experiences, national recognition, and a few challenges to overcome along the way. But what we're most proud of is building a passionate team, strong industry relationships and a clear future vision to grow visitation to the region.

We're looking forward to sharing a few stories from our 8 year long journey in The Tweed region 💚

After eight incredible years, DR Tourism's journey leading The Tweed Tourism Co. is coming to a close, as this week we hand over to the team at Tweed Shire Council.

In 2018, The Tweed welcomed a little over 600,000 overnight visitors. Total overnight visitation has now surpassed one million visitors for the first time on record, generating almost 3 million visitor nights.

None of this growth would have happened without the passionate local industry.

To our Tweed Tourism Co team and volunteers, our industry and government partners, Tweed Shire Council, and particularly the tourism operators and businesses who trusted us to tell your stories - thank you for allowing us to be part of yours.

What a fantastic recognition for The Tweed – named by Lonely Planet as the only Australian destination on its global Top Destinations Hotlist for 2027.

This is a wonderful acknowledgement of what makes The Tweed such a special destination, and of the incredible tourism operators, businesses and communities who bring it to life.

It’s also a moment to be incredibly proud of our The Tweed Tourism Co. team. Over many years, this dedicated and passionate team has worked alongside Tweed Shire Council and our local tourism industry to build The Tweed’s profile, strengthen its positioning and share its story with audiences across Australia and around the world.

To see The Tweed now receiving recognition on the global stage from Lonely Planet is something our team can be enormously proud of. A brilliant achievement for The Tweed and everyone who has played a part in the journey!

Last week the team headed to Byron Bay for the annual Byron Tourism Symposium.

An inspiring day of industry insights, future-focused conversations and valuable local connections delivered by the Destination Byron team. From tourism trends and luxury travel to Brisbane 2032 opportunities and the future of the Byron region, it was great to hear from an incredible lineup of speakers.

Plenty of ideas and inspiration for the local tourism industry for the road ahead!

The latest visitor statistics are in — and The Tweed is performing strongly.

Tourism Research Australia’s latest visitor survey results show significant growth across key visitation metrics, with The Tweed emerging as one of the top-performing LGAs on the North Coast for overnight trips.

Strong growth in domestic overnight visitors, day trips and visitor spend reflects the continued appeal of our region and the great work of The Tweed's tourism sector.
