You may have noticed things have been a bit quiet here at Proteus HQ lately.....

That's because we have been moving! My wife and I packed up from our place in West Hobart TAS to move to Primrose Sands TAS 🤯

We have bought a tiny house on a block of land and plan to live in it while we build a new place 🏡

It's such a beautiful and quiet spot and we are enjoying the serenity 🌅

As you know moving is a hectic time and we are slowly getting things sorted. I'll be pretty busy for the rest of the week but back into a normal routine hopefully from next week!

Hope you all are doing well and I look forward to getting stuck into work from next week 😊

Here is the biggest tip I can give you for organic social media growth......Show up every day 😀

Sounds simple right? Oh, it's anything but. As a marketer, this advice is easy to give, but very hard to actually follow. We are all human and some days are harder than others, but persistence and perseverance are huge 👊

If you post consistently (it doesn't have to be every day), add to your stories, create reels, reply to comments, comment on other posts, and generally be engaged, then you will be looked favorably upon by the dreaded algorithm 📈

Consistency is key and it takes willpower to make it happen. So remember to show up every day and you will start to see steady growth and engagement 🌳

This one is close to my heart and just writing the words is tough ❤️

For those that don't know I am completely deaf in my left ear. This is due to me having meningitis when I was 6 months old 👶

First things first this post is not to make you feel sorry for me, in fact, quite the opposite. I have lived my whole life like this and it's all I have ever known. I still have one good ear and am lucky enough to be healthy and happy 👂

Most people are surprised when I tell them that I am deaf because, for the most part, it is completely unnoticeable. For many people that have had meningitis, the results are a lot worse with complete hearing loss, loss of vision, loss of limbs, and even death. I am incredibly lucky and feel blessed every day that I have such a great life 😄

National Week of Deaf People (NWDP) is a week-long celebration of deaf individuals and the deaf community in Australia. It's is an opportunity for Deaf people to celebrate their communities, language, culture, history, and to recognise their achievements. It is supported by the amazing people at Deaf Australia and you can find more info on their social media and website 🔗

For me, this week is about reflection and celebration and I hope that it puts things in perspective for you 😊

Today I want to give a shout-out to a Tassie business that I absolutely love ❤️

Where I choose to spend my hard-earned dollars means a lot, and as a small business owner and digital marketer, I know the impact my influence can make on a brand 😁

With that being said I wanted to share Paradise Lost Barber Shop in Hobart. Lee is the man behind this incredible place and team. I discovered Paradise Lost through a friend a couple of years ago and since then they have gone from strength to strength. They have opened at a new location with a brighter colour scheme, and a bigger than life atmosphere 👍

I have been to many barbers in my life, but I have never experienced anything close to what Lee and his team bring to the table. A great atmosphere, incredible and friendly service, good music, wonderful chats, and of course the cuts themselves are amazing ✂️

Lee and the team looked after me and my groomsmen for my wedding and I have great trust in them 😀

You need to find your niche...

Social media is a tricky beast and we tend to want to be as big online as possible. We crave to have more followers and get as many eyes on our content or product as possible. This is understandable, but does it lead to more sales and engagement? Well not always 🤔

What if you found a group of people that are invested and interested in what you are doing? A niche of people that will always interact with your content and buy your products. They are not there to be popular, they actually care about you, your product/service, and your business 🏢

Finding a niche can be tough, but is well worth the effort. Here are some things you may want to ask yourself:

💭what are my interests and passions?
💭what problems can I solve?
💭how can I narrow down my niche?
💭what is the competition doing/not doing?

I'll use Proteus Digital as an example. When I first launched I was producing content left, right, and centre in order to get myself out there. My goal was to get as many people to look at my content and follow me. I was hungry and wanted to share my skills with the world. While this was not necessarily wrong, it was a scattered approach out of desperation and hope 😮

I reflected, I asked questions. I found that my passion lies in helping local businesses to reach more people and have higher engagement. I can help people solve the problems of navigating the digital landscape by assisting in social media, ads, and SEO. Then it occurred to me that my niche is Tasmanian businesses and it had been staring me in the face the whole time. I had overlooked this as I did not want to limit my customer base, not realising that targeting my niche is actually more beneficial 🌏

This led to keyword search and instead of using general hashtags like that are flooded, I can use which is less crowded and more in line with my niche 😀

So find your niche and your people. You and your business will benefit from it, trust me!

Been thinking of starting that thing, but not sure if you are ready? My advice is to JUST START NOW!!!

Proteus Digital was something that I had been thinking about for a couple of years before launching. I took some time to plan how I wanted things to go and that's completely normal, but then I kept finding things I felt I needed to do before hitting the go-live button 🎥

I told myself I need to see an accountant first, I need to figure out the packages I will produce and the prices for them, I need to do more online training in xyz, I need to take time off from my other job to get things under control, etc 📃

The reality is there are a million things you can do before diving into that thing and to be honest you are never going to feel completely ready. It's incredibly scary but just go for it. Launch that thing and get yourself out there. You might not know everything straight away, but you will learn 😀

So if you have been thinking about doing that thing, take the plunge and do it. Don't wait! Be confident that you are ready and that you have the power to do whatever you want in this world 🗺️
