I’m working with the Statistical Society of Australia on their International Women’s Day campaign.
Here is How to Market Around Big Events Without Looking Like a Bandwagoner
Events like International Women’s Day aren’t just a chance to slap a hashtag on a post and call it a day. If you want your marketing to actually stand out (and not feel like a last-minute homework assignment), here’s how to do it right:
🎯 Plan Ahead (Like, Yesterday) – If you’re scrambling for ideas the day before, you’re already late. A solid campaign needs strategy, storytelling, and maybe a Pinterest board of inspiration.
💡 Be Real, Not Cringe – Audiences can smell inauthentic marketing from space. If your brand doesn’t support women, don’t just show up on IWD like you’ve been leading the charge. Align your message with what you actually stand for.
📢 Hashtags Are Not a Marketing Plan – Sure, helps with reach, but if your post is just a stock photo and a generic caption… yawn. Say something original. Make people think, laugh, or engage.
🤝 Make It About People, Not Just Your Brand – Highlight real stories, celebrate your team, feature voices that matter. If your IWD campaign is just “Look at us, we care,” you missed the point.
📊 One Post Won’t Cut It – If your whole strategy is “Post once and move on,” please… stop right now. Create a series—maybe a behind-the-scenes, a Q&A, or a spotlight on badass women in your industry.
🔄 Keep the Momentum Going – When the event is over, don’t ghost the cause. Recap highlights, share key takeaways, and show how you’re continuing the conversation.
Moral of the story? Don’t just show up—show up and contribute. Make your marketing matter.
