We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Professor David Hughes.
It was an absolute privilege to welcome David as our keynote speaker at Cherry 2026 in Adelaide earlier this year, where he became one of the true highlights of our conference.
David had an extraordinary ability to combine knowledge, insight and experience with humour, warmth and a genuine connection with his audience. He had us thinking, learning and laughing, and his presentation left a lasting impression on so many who were in the room.
Across a remarkable career spanning more than five decades, David made an enormous contribution to the global food, agriculture and fresh produce industries. It was his generosity of spirit, personality and passion for sharing his knowledge that made him so memorable.
We feel incredibly fortunate to have spent that time with him and to have had the opportunity for our Australian cherry industry to hear from and connect with such an exceptional person.
David will be very sadly missed.
