Business ownership is lovely. It's also lonely.
β
βI've had the confidence knocked out of me more times that I can count. ββ οΈ One particular memory sticks with me.
β
βIt's after work, I'm choosing takeaway with my partner at the time. I'm explaining a staffing concern, knowing I have to let someone go for underperformance. It's something I've never done before.
βIn typical Libra fashion, I'm justifying both sides of the situation. Ruminating. Going back and forth on the decision. How to handle it. What to say. How to say it.
β
β"Can you just stop talking. I *literally* don't care about this anymore".
β
βOuch.
β
βIn that moment I realised two things.
βπ One β No-one will love (or care) about your business, as much as you do. Not your partner, your clients, or even your team.
βπ Two - Lawd, this person can't handle themselves when they get hangry.
β
βThis moment became so jarring. βIf they don't care about this. Do they therefore not care about me? I am this business. This business is me. If I make the wrong decision, and this business fails, do I fail? Would I be seen as a failure?
βIt's been a journey to unravel the feelings of self worth that are tied to business success. No one teaches you that.
β
For a while βI stopped sharing the intricacies how work really was going. With anyone. Always autopiloting to "good, busy!" and "great! thankyou".
β
βThat's where the loneliness is. β
ββ
βFor those business owners who right now feel like a small fish in a very big pond. Craving recognition for your hard work and dedication to grow something out of nothing. βI see you. I literally DO care about you.
