"But my product is for everyone — I don't want to leave anyone out."

I hear this one almost every single discovery call. And honestly? I get it. Especially when you're building something with a wide reach or a big volume goal.

But here's what I've learned: a big audience doesn't mean you're marketing to everyone.

"A lot of people" is still a specific someone. Someone with a specific problem. A specific lifestyle. A specific reason they'd choose you over anyone else.

That's who your brand needs to speak to.

And when you skip the work of defining that person — your visuals don't land, your copy doesn't connect, and your marketing starts to feel like shouting into a void.

Worse? It becomes impossible to hand off. And if you're time-poor and planning to outsource your marketing down the track, unclear brand foundations will cost you so much more in the long run — in time, in money, and in back-and-forth trying to explain a brand that was never properly defined.

Some brands are created from strategy.
Others start with a story.

Before belonged to Ben & Ash, it was their date night spot. The place they’d go to switch off from work, sit tucked into a moody corner together and enjoy a really good cocktail done properly. They used to joke that if Osk ever came up for sale one day, they’d buy it.

Three years later, that exact thing happened.

When it came time to rebrand Osk, the goal wasn’t to reinvent what people already loved about the venue. It was about refining it. Elevating it. Bringing the brand identity up to the standard of the experience Ben & Ash were intentionally building behind the scenes.

The direction needed to feel intimate, intentional and premium without falling into the typical “speakeasy” clichés. Warm lighting. Rich tones. Elevated details. A brand that feels polished and confident, while still feeling welcoming and deeply personal.

Every element was designed to mirror the experience of walking into Osk itself: beautifully balanced cocktails, thoughtful atmosphere, meaningful conversation and a space that makes a simple night out feel special again.

A little look behind the scenes of the Wedge branding process

One thing we always try to educate clients on is that branding isn’t just “making something look cool”. Every design decision is backed by strategy, feedback, positioning and refinement.

For Wedge, we started by pulling key themes and language from the client brief to establish the overall brand direction. From there, we developed moodboards, refined the visual direction based on feedback, explored multiple icon variations and built out a complete logo suite.

One of the biggest turning points in this project came through the icon exploration phase. The client loved the original concept, but wanted the logo mark to feel more sophisticated, dynamic and reflective of the brand direction we had created.

So rather than starting from scratch, we refined and evolved the concept through multiple icon variations - exploring movement, shape and form until we landed on a final logo suite that felt distinctive, strategic and digitally led.

It's a common misconception that a logo is a brand. But that could not be further from the truth. A logo is one part of the eco system.
