Finally got around to my wrap up of The Big Design Market, one of the biggest design events in Melbourne. I love the atmosphere and being in the iconic Royal Exhibition Buildings for 3 full days.

There were many hours of prep work behind the scenes and so how did it go?

• It was one of my quietest market events sales-wise. So that was a little disappointing. Lots of people came by, but many walked past or looked like they might purchase something but then didn't.

• The crowds were definitely still there, so hats off to the team for still bringing in the people. Overall it feels like people had less to spend and with cost of living pressures, that wasn't a surprise.

• I had 58 sales and a bit of everything sold. This makes it hard to know what to make more or less of for next time. Things I thought I would start to phase out (my key rings) were still selling well!

• It can be hard to stand out, especially as the stall was towards the back. There are so many incredible businesses doing so many creative things. I think I will re-jig my display, I realised having displays at the front of the table are often hard to see or difficult for people to bend down and look at it.

• Despite not being massive sales-wise, I did get a wholesale and licensing enquiry and of course met many new customers and reconnected with people I know. Always grateful to those who decide to spend their hard earned money on my products ❤️

• The reality is the cost of doing market events is huge! I used to be able to do most of the big markets in Melbourne, but with the sales not what they were for me, I'm just doing the next Big Design Market in December. I'm hoping this one goes well 🤞🏼

A huge thank you to everyone that has stopped by. These markets are often a bit of a marathon with the prep work beforehand and long hours. But it's been great to meet new and old customers the last couple of days.

Look what's back in stock! This was a fab collab with Em from the - HANK-ies have so many uses, not just to blow your nose, but a bandana in your hair, a reusable gift wrap, embroidery project, to wipe down a wet bicycle seat, dry wet hands when there's no paper towel or dryer in sight, a glasses cleaner and more.

Made from a beautiful organic cotton, it's a bit of pretty floral-ness to always carry around with you.

With Winter just around the corner, these HANK-ies are online and will also be with me for - there's very limited stock available so if you've had your eye on one - they're up on my website and Etsy shop now!

Sometimes your work appears in unexpected places. Shout out to my friend Laura for spotting this advert from Pure New Zealand... look closely and my design appears on the guy's beanie 😍

It's one of the prints I licensed to Spotlight a few years back, on a fleece fabric, so it's nice to see it was used to sew up the beanie - makes me want to book a trip to New Zealand!

I started 2026 with high hopes and a fresh start after a holiday in Bali and returning to some wholesale orders that continued up until the start of the month. That's come to a complete stop. Since things escalated over in the Middle East and with interest rates rises, petrol going up and general uncertainty right now, it's hard to know where there are any opportunities for small creative businesses and artists to thrive.

Here's what's on my mind:

• Freelance and licensing opportunities just seem few and far between.

• Will the cost of making products keep going up making it hard to invest in more and new products?

• I have a big market on in May, will people be able to afford to go and spend there?

• How are retail shops going to be affected and is it going to impact wholesaling from small creative brands?

So many unanswered questions and thoughts! Are you a small creative brand or artists? What's going on for you?

When you work solo, sometimes it's hard to tell if it's just you or other people are in the same boat.

Good luck to those who entered!

Word for 2026. Hello everyone! It's been awhile. Ever since our trip to Bali and then getting back into the hectic routines of school and activities, I've found it really hard to show up here on social media. Sometimes, with all that is going on in the world right now, I just want to disconnect instead of adding to the noise.

Also, maybe because I'm getting older, but constantly posting and making engaging content is getting harder - but it also feels like a necessity when you have a small business and need to get your work out there.

So my word for 2026 is 'change'. I'm naturally resistant to change. I like routines, being organised and planning ahead. So maybe I chose this word because I sense change is ahead - which could be both good and bad. It has already started as my youngest finished primary school last year and started year 7 - so it will be a big change for her this year. My oldest moved high schools this year, so it'll also be a big change for her.

As for Fabric Drawer - last year was a struggle with sales and with motivation. I've had moments where I've wanted to give up because I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere. Right now I've finished two wholesale orders and one more to go, and then I can really think about some goals and changes for this year...

What's your word for 2026?!

All the travel essentials in my Fabric Drawer zip pouch! It's been 10 years since I last travelled to Indonesia, after living in Jakarta for 2 years. It's nice to be back in Bali for a holiday with the kids for a much needed break.

There's still time to pop in an order for my popular zip purses for one more day through 😀 Get 10-15% off wholesale orders - order through my direct link:
