Roundhouse Shay remotor kits for testing. Send me a message if interested.

This kit removes the large motor from the cab, and the gears going from the motor to below the chassis.

These will be $90 + postage (free postage on orders over $200)

Compatible with both 2 and 3 truck Roundhouse/MDC Shays and either gauge.

Parts included;
- Motor and gears pre assembled into mount
- Ashpan to hide gear box
- cab interior to cover the void left by the removal of the original motor, detailed to represent a generic firebox/boiler rear.
- front and rear drive shaft
- 2x driveshaft cups for bogies
- cutout guide for the chassis

As mentioned previously, these require removal of the original motor and gearbox and some modification to the chassis. The modification does not prevent the re-installation of the original parts should you wish to revert.

Just thought I'd share a photo of my 'layout' 😁

3 lengths of flex track spaced apart such that;
- Rails 1 + 2 = 16.5mm (HO/OO/On30)
- Rails 2 + 3 = 12mm (HOn3.5)
- Rails 3 + 4 = 9mm (HOn30/OO9/n)
- Rails 2 + 5 = 32mm (O)
- Rails 5 + 6 = 10.5mm (HOn3)

Admittedly the pink haired troll riding the baby "Shay" is out of scale.

So I'm upto the underside of the CPH but don't have any useful resources (photos, diagrams etc), just some vague shapes. If anyone has some photos to use that would be appreciated.

While I'm asking;
- Are there any preferences for interior layout, and how much detail wanted on the inside?
- I've modeled a board across the base of the side windows because it was there on #2 at Junee. But I'm not sure it's purpose, was it to prevent the opening of windows?

One of the odd jobs in progress; remotor kit for a Bachmann Shay.

I've had this loco for years, waiting for restoration. After it had failed (as is their way) the previous owner used it in a diorama accident scene. Apart from the gears being split, it was missing the motor and tender. Anyway, it looked very crappy (still does) so I removed the paint and details while I worked on the drive system. The replacement motor (coreless) and flywheel fit in just nicely. It's not a necessary upgrade, but an easy drop in part for a burnt out motor.

I plan to extend the chassis rearwards and turn this into a 2 truck shay. I would like to do something interesting/fun with the fuel bunker area rather than just the regular. So something like whaleback, slopeback or even a stubby Vanderbilt ;)

Recently I've applied a more scheduled approach to balance production and design, it helps keep things focused (and seems to be working well).

My goal for the future is to design and deliver (per calendar month) a new model of;
1x Railmotor
1x Carriage

Along side this there will be the ongoing design tasks (eg mechs), quick and odd-jobs (eg. gears, small details).

As for new requests, there is no point waiting to make a request, best to let me know what you are after and I'll see where I can fit things in. A small job I can squeeze in here or there, but a larger job such as a railmotor, carriage or loco shell will get assigned a month. Currently the next 3 months are assigned :)

While stocks last, bogies built with n20 & n30 motors (brushed 3 pole) are discounted.

I am choosing to discontinue these options to simplify the supply of motors I need to keep track of.

They perform well generally, but not as well at very low speeds.

Life-Like Australian National GP-38 remotor kit?

I've been asked a couple times to do something about re-powering these locos. Does anybody have one I can borrow to measure from? Ideally in good condition such that I can also use it for product photos.

Chipping away at the CPH.

Focus has been on the front and adding all the little details. Not entirely sure how much will make it into the end product as some details may be too small to print (eg window wiper). But for the meantime I'll add as much detail as I can, then work backwards from there. If nothing else, the model could be used at larger scales.

Bit of pipery still to go on the roof, and the cow catcher then the front is done?

Next on the workbench for repair are a couple Bachman On30 models.

- Railbus & trailer
- Railtruck

I'll be sorting out the little bevel gears (the bane of Bachmann), is there anything else people need?

After maybe 3 years of sitting in boxes, my two Shays are back up and running. #2 had never even been run due to being new old stock that had split gears :(

I had been putting it off due to stories of it being a difficult repair it turned out to be surprisingly quick and easy. In someways it's easier than most Steam loco repairs and took maybe 15mins per loco. It's a bit tough on the fingers, but the gears can be hand fitted, a big advantage over the NWSL gears.

Worth noting that these gears are now shipping in black, and until stock of grey gears run out, orders will be "buy 1 in black, get a bonus 1 in grey".
