Sometimes, getting your website to actually feel like your business can be the tricky part.

When Kev from Kev's Total Yard Maintenance came into the studio, he wanted a website that felt like his brand and reflected the experience and knowledge he's built in the industry.

So hearing that we nailed what he had in mind (and a little more) definitely made our day.

Yesterday, we stepped away from the studio and headed to one of Queensland's biggest industry events, Queensland Mining & Engineering Exhibition (QME)

As a studio that works closely with the mining, civil, and trades industries, we couldn't help but look at the expo through a slightly different lens. Beyond the impressive machinery, we were paying attention to the branding, the stand layouts, and the intentional creative ideas that actually encouraged people to stop, start a conversation, and remember a business long after the event.

We’ve shared five stands that caught our eye, each one demonstrated a smart, purposeful idea or a unique way of showcasing brand personality that any business can apply when exhibiting.

It was a morning well spent catching up with clients and seeing how these brands are showing up in the real world.

Today, we left the owl behind and transformed into Black Mouse Design! 🐭🦉

Don't panic... it was all for birthday surprise purposes.

Alicia thought she was going to escape our birthday pranks by having her birthday on a Sunday, but at Black Owl Design we're always one step ahead. So, we transformed the office into a cute mouse hunt just for her birthday (luckily Alicia doesn't have any mouse-related fears!).

We hope you had a squeak-tacular birthday morning, enjoyed your mouse-themed surprise (did we mention we also played Mouse Trap at morning tea?) and have the most wonderful weekend celebrating your day!

We were so busy giving a hoot... we almost forgot we've officially become teenagers.

Well...by about a month.

Thirteen years (+1 month) have flown by, and what a journey it's been.

What started as an idea has grown into a creative studio helping businesses build stronger brands through design, strategy, websites, marketing and everything in between.

Over the past 13 years, we've had the privilege of working alongside incredible clients, supporting local businesses, celebrating big wins and building genuine connections throughout our community. For that, we're incredibly grateful.

Here's to the next chapter, more bold ideas, more creative adventures and many more years of giving a hoot.

Although...now that we're officially teenagers, we might have to start acting a little cooler.

Another fantastic grant opportunity for Mackay businesses.

We have worked with local businesses in the past after receiving their grant and we certainly recommend you take a look!

Mackay City & Waterfront grants are opening soon!!

Applications open Wednesday, July 15, and close Friday, August 28, with three grant opportunities available:

🎊Make Your Place Mackay Waterfront Placemaking Grant
Supporting projects and activations that bring people together and create vibrant, inclusive public spaces across the Mackay City and Waterfront area.

🔓City Safety Grant
Helping eligible commercial properties and incorporated bodies in the Mackay Safe Night Precinct deliver safety improvements such as lighting, CCTV and other late-night safety initiatives.

💒Façade Improvement Grant
Encouraging property owners and business operators to improve building frontages and shopfronts across the Mackay region.

A community briefing day will be held on Thursday, July 30, at Mainstay Suites, Macalister Street, giving interested applicants the opportunity to learn more about the grants, ask questions and speak directly with our team.

This is a great opportunity for businesses, property owners, incorporated bodies and community-minded locals to help shape a safer, more active and more inviting city centre.
